Thank You, USA! (Ice Hockey)

Just in case some of you people are watching (assuming you even can in the first place) the Ice Hockey World Championship Games being held in the Czech Republic, last night the US team sent the Czechs packing and made it past the elimination round to the top four. This was, as you may or may not know, the biggest bombshell about the games to date, and eliminated by far the most dangerous team from the competition. Now if only Finland will beat Canada today, then all will be good. :)

By the way, it was an amazing game, the US came from behind in a 2-0 situation and evened the score, no goals on the 10-minute 4 on 4 overtime and finally beat the Czechs in a penalty shot competition, the only goal was by Rhoades who was the fifth shooter. All in all, one of the most excitinggames I've ever watched, and I'm glad I did instead of just assuming the Czechs were going to win by a mile. If you want more info, go to http://www.ihwc.net

I still have the same problem from last year when we talked about this; there's no place for me to watch it. Even ESPN/2 is showing poker and 9-Ball championships over it.

I have been trying to follow it via the news, however, and I did not expect the US to make it this far. Isn't the US team in danger of have to qualify for the Olympic games because of their poor showing early on?

Yay USA!

Just like rooting for the Bolts: I don't give a damn about hockey, but when "my team" is winning I'm happy. Yes, I'm an unashamed fair weather fan. :P

I saw complaints about that on the IHWC American subforum, and there was a post that you might be interested in:
Got this link and info from a posting on the Czech Msg Board:

http://www.tw1.at

Then click on TW1-Live Programm
Then realplayer will appear with the hockey game
That might ease some of your pain, though the commentary is in German, it being an Austrian site.

As for the US needing to qualify for the Olympics, no worries about that anymore as you made it to the top 4 and making it to the top 8 was good enough. Much better than last year when Team USA finished 13th out of a 16 country tournament...

Ugh. Penalty Shot competitions. If the regulations say a game can not end in a tie, then let the TEAM game continue until there is no tie. Penalty shot competitions just kill the spirit IMO; they should do as the NHL does in the playoffs and have full strength full time overtime periods until one team finally scores.

Ok Rant off.

That's the way it works in the elimination rounds, the finals are a different story. Anyway, I couldn't care less anymore, as Canada just dropped Finland out on overtime.

Do you really want to mention the Bolts in this thread?

Go USA!

It's not as if it wasn't deserved, the way our team just gave up on overtime, it was like they had just gone to sleep. And the greatest failure was the Finnish goaltender, Noronen, who took a needless penalty that gave Canada over a minute of 5 on 3 and allowed a goal, and later sucked in two easy shots. Annoying but there it is, the better team won.
