This gun and the 40mm launcher is legal in Canada, while it is ILLEGAL in
the USA.
SIG assault rifle and 40mm launcher: priced at $6200 CAN or
$4015.45 USD.
Only problem is, the standard capacity magazine is illegal in Canada, being
restricted to 5 rounds.
Here in the States, this is considered a small magazine collection, and all of
them are illegal in Canada.
So I guess it kinda pans out in the end....
ObSF nitpick:
The Stargate SG-1 show uses Fabrique Nationale P-90 submachine guns,
which are illegal in the United States, unless you work for the police or
military.
However, in Canada, they never had certain stupid import ban laws passed,
and since SG-1 is shot in Vancouver, they have those nifty P-90s.

Having a 40mm grenade launcher under my rifle would scare me to death. I mean, running into battle with the thing would be okay, but just pottering around the country as a civilian... What happens if you fuck up and accidently fire it into the ground in front of your boots? You'd shit yourself to death.
(Okay, I'm pretty sure there's a fuze in each grenade which means it has to spin a set number of times - and thus travel a certain distance - before it arms. But still - it'd be a moment of clarity.

The obvious question for Sheppard:
What 40mm rounds can be legally purchased by a civilian? If all you can get are flares and tear gas, then it's not so stupid. And if you're going to claim the black market, why would they even bother with the Sig? Just get a nice AK-47 with 30mm grenade launcher for 1/10th the price.

The guns used to shows movies are not real. As built they can only fire special blank cartridges and have a barrel to small to fit a normal round. Most firearms companies specifically produce such weapon in limited numbers.
Quite a lot of illegal arms show up in movies, and that’s because there not real, not because they were filmed else were.

Actually, the P-90 is extremely prone to magazine jams; several militaries which adapted them got rid of them after only a few years because of this. No way in Hell would I carry one..

That's why the US military has used the M-16 for the last 30 years, reliability.

He signed an executive order in 1989 banning importation of foreign
made "assault rifles" such as SIGs, Heckler and Koch G-3s, and
Steyr AUGs.
Canada never had such an inane ban, meaning that if you can still
get past their ridiculous level of gun control, you can have weapons that
are banned in the USA.
Some more information:
Gun manufacturers quickly changed their wares to get around the ban,
leading to another Executive order, only this time by Slick Willie:
In November of 1997, President Clinton issued an Executive Order blocking the importation of thousands of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, including the Uzi American and Galil Sporter. This action was taken at the urging of Senator Dianne Feinstein and 29 other senators who learned that ATF had improperly granted import permits for the weapons.
The 1968 Gun Control Act only allows importation of firearms that are "suitable for, or readily adapted to, sporting purposes." 18 U.S.C. § 925 (d)(3). In 1989, President Bush banned the importation of more than 40 military-style assault weapons that failed to meet the "sporting purposes" test. Moreover, in 1994, Congress banned the importation, as well as the future manufacture and sale, of 19 types of assault weapons with military characteristics. Several foreign and domestic manufacturers, however, have made minor modifications to their assault weapons in order to circumvent these laws.
At the time of President Clinton’s importation freeze, ATF had already granted import permits for nearly 600,000 assault weapons and permits were pending for one million more. The President’s order halted importation of the disputed weapons for 120 days so that the Treasury Department, which oversees ATF, would have an opportunity to review the legality of the permits.
On April 6, 1998, President Clinton announced that the Treasury Department had determined that the 58 types of assault weapons subject to the freeze could not be classified as "sporting" weapons and could not, therefore, be legally imported under the 1968 Gun Control Act. Weapons importers have vowed to go to Congress and/or to the courts to have the decision overturned.

"That's why the US military has used the M-16 for the last 30 years, reliability."
I've heard nightmare stories about M-16 and its lack of the aforementioned reliability. And not just from Vietnam. There was a group here in Amf (IIRC) who got some M-16s as a supplement for their regular armament. The M-16s, getting the same treatment as the other guns, lasted two weeks.

I can tell you from personel experience the M-16A(2-3) rocks. The M-16 A1 was a piece of shit, with no forward assist, and a smaller ejection port. The ammo of that era had problems that were fixed less than half way through Viet Naam. The A-3 model is THE shit, with the 3 round burst option! It won't shoot quite as far as the AK-47, but the trajectory is much flatter. (Read that as more accurate.)The slower rate of fire helps to conserve ammo. Pound for pound you get almost twice the ammo. Very important if you are carrying the thing very far, and can't get to the resupply point. The only downside is, you must keep it clean. (and up front cost) The stories of the smallest amount of dirt jamming it are just that. Stories. I am a veteran of Desert Storm, and know many 'Naam vets. (I served with them!) Most of the jamming was when you didn't close the dust cover on the ejection port, and submerged it in muddy water! That or you were too lazy to clean it when you had the time.
Take it from one who has been there, done that, not the ever nebulous "they".
The AK-47 is not to be sneezed at, and at 50$ apiece, price does matter, to brokedick pisspoor countrys. The hail of lead method has it's upsides too, if you have enough ammo to sustain it without running dry!

Speaking of guns, how about the one on the A-10?
They actually had to limit the amount of ammo it uses per second because to force of firing would stop the plane in mid-air.
