One week at SDnet...

After one week here and a few posts, I'm starting to form the following opinions and questions:

I originally thought this place was like ASVS's evil alternate-universe cousin, as in mostly current and former ASVS denizens (most before my time), primarily Warsies, under the iron fist of a tireless Sith lord (Wong) . Now.... I find out it's a helluva lot more crowded than ASVS, even counting trolls there.... under the aluminum fists of one tireless sith lord, a bunch of administrators, and a league of moderators. Is this any closer to the mark? :?:

I did read the FAQ when I first came here, right after my first test post. However, I did not visit the main site content. To be honest, I don't intend to even debate Star Trek or Star Wars once here, except perhaps in jest - and then, it'd be obvious slapstick. Largely because, having spent 10 months at ASVS, I know its pointless and I don't have the tireless effort in me to debate a horde... especially on a site hosted by the head of the horde. I think i'll mostly post to the OT, Gaming/Computers, and maybe the Fanfic sections.

What's with all the crazy polls? I mean, some of them are just plain sick. Like the incest ones....

STGOD seems interesting, especially since STGOD in ASVS seems dead. I kinda wonder if the format is different. ASVS's STGOD-2 had a sizable story-based element to it that seems absent. This is just folks blowing the hell out of each other, making alliances, selling stuff, etc. Is this just me or is it the case?

Avatars: what an invention - a picture that tells folks something about you so you're not just replying to a piece of text. Usenet would be better with it. Then again, folks sometimes use sick or weird ones. Like Enigma's - I'm not sure whether to commend it for accurately portraying his personality or condemning it for being sick. And don't start me on apparently male posters using female avatars, especially anime.... let's just say it make things a bit confusing. But then, I think of it as a representation of the person, and not a representation of who the person wants to sleep with. I think it would be better to use either gender-neutral avatars (like mine) or specialize according to gender.

Specialized 'ranks' - If and when I stay here long enough to earn/deserve one, I'd like to change from (redshirt/youngling/padawan/etc) and become "The Mad Admiral" - fit perfectly with either Starfleet Command or maybe a pic of one of those crazy admirals. And its mad as in crazy, not mad as in upset. But then, by then, i might change my mind... oh well.

As to my fanfic... I originally came here to talk to Phong and Marine. I needed to know their characters so I could more adequately parody them. I haven't gotten a response from Phong and Marina doesn't seem to be here. Is she? I'd like to get in touch with her, especially since she's now an important plot point. I got some information from Dalton and RayCav but i'm not sure if that's the case. I'd also like more information from any current and former ASVSers who want to show up. I might post it here soon....

How do people possibly get 18,000 posts in 18 months? 1,000 posts/month is over 30 posts per day. Thats.... a lot. In 10 months at ASVS, i've managed not quite 900, or about 3 posts per day.

I noticed a lot of people here are from Toronto. What gives?

Why is Darth Wong also known as Admiral Kanos? And why, if he's a dark lord of the sith, using Yoda as his avatar? Oh, and I don't know what 'lex animata' means, either.

Am i just a pest or are these questions/points legitimate?

Read the announcements.

No you didn't.

That's part of the board's character.

That's how TGOD started.

No one cares what you think.

PM The Duchess of Zeon.

They post a lot.

Apparently, Toronto is a large city, and people who live there have connections to the internet. I was surprised to find out that Canada wasn't a third-world shit-hole, as well.

You're being a pest. Thread closed.

You really found that necessary?

I don't think he was being obnoxious, although he could have read the announcements to answer some of his questions.
