the klingons VS modern earth

A klingon invasion force from a parallel time line has come back to attempt to take over the earth.
they will use there normal tactics (I.E. run in with swords) and will land troops since they want earth intact not a bombarded ruin.
earth has 3 years warning of there coming to prepare.
can we take them?

Klingons get cut to bloody ribbons.
Only when they start using energy weapons and orbital bombardment to they even have a faint chance of winning.
Otherwise it is a one-sided slaughter. I'd especially like to see them die horribly in the urban fighting.

Klingons get blasted to bits.
Earth wouldn't even need a warning.
Thr Klingon "troops" would be massacred by any army with equipment from the 20th century. (IOW: Any guys with guns.)
If the Klingons only sent a few ships, these could probably be killed without too much trouble by ICBMs.

Hmm a volley of our most powerful nuclear missiles could probably destroy a klingon vessel, the difficulty lies in targeting.

Are Klingon ships in the invasion?

I guess. But they won't use them for orbital bombardment.
Hey, we could board them!

What do we really know about Klingon military - they have some form of ground attack vehicles, they have some form of shelling (comprised of throwing flour) and they have their standard weapons.
Wouldnt the Klingons we able to shoot down any ICBM's heading for them? or possibly move out of the way (or range).
The Klingons would probably still loose but that really depends if thy use the vehicles they have (and dependant upon how good they are/arent).
The Feds would simply use photon grenades from above with the transporter but since the Klingons may not have grenades and they prefer to get up close and personal.
One thing to consider however is that the Klingons dont have to engage the army - they can transport from population center to population center and bug out when things get hot (depends upon the commander).

Oh come on PLEASE first we only see those in TOS, they're GONE at TNG times and you can't honestly think that the fact they have mortar will bring them victory over a fully equiped ground army.

Yeah that'll bring them victory

main drawback is that the missiles have to cover a long range.
But I'd say it's not impossible to hit them.

Ermm yeah they are gone during TNG even though Geordi suggest using some
and with the transporter no less.
Yeah destroying infrastructure will eventually bring you victory it just takes a while (not really Klingon style but still).
I would also back a flight of shuttles to be able to cause some damage against ground targets but we dont really know alot about Klingon shuttles so I wont put anything forward.
I wouldnt say its impossible either but whats to stop the ships from area detonating a torp nearby or phaser PD (we have seen phasers shoot down missiles before and in Generations Worf seemed to think he could shoot down an FTL missile), not only that but whats to stop the Klingons from using their tractor beam from holding the missiles at arms lenght, finally it may take a fair few ICBM's to take out a proper capship (depends upon what weapons figures you subscribe to).

well with two years I think that we can make our own orbital battle craft so to cut down the time from launch to impact and reduce the chance of the klingons shotting down the missiles.

Can the Klingons take out orbital devices? that could cause some problems for the earth.
Thx GAT

Although my personal force field will deal with your primitive weapons
, hmm thats an idea do Klingons have personal force fields like SF?

Straight ground battle the Klingons are fucked.
On the ground, a few fancy grenades and tricks with transporters won't be enough to stop a heavy armored division.
Capital ship and shuttle support, we lose.
We don't have anything to penetrate the shields of either.

hang on a sec we have seen ST shields go down to primative chemical bombs (ST:I)

We have seen chemical bombs capable of vaping a planet in TOS, normal science doesnt always apply to trek - they have chemical reactions orders of magnitude greater than an AM/M reactions of the same mass, also that chemicaL has funky properties I believe going from when we saw it during DS9 and VOY.
This thread isnt really about shield strenght so we really dont want to hijack the thread.

Aginst the FULL Klingon Empire we screwed, Aginst maybe five-six ships we can still win..
Why?
Quantum Torps are 128 Megatons, 3 of those kills the avarage ST Ship
We certaintly have around a Gigaton or Two of Nuclear Weapons laying around on the Subs...

Simple we mention we are coming to combat them in glorius battle and they will sit there as our "Orbital Assult Shuttles"(Thats what we call them) head for the Klingon's

The Klingons arent that stupid they would engage them on the gound, they arent above throwing honour to the wind when its comes to victory.

Klingon Invasion Fleet...

Keep in mind we have 3 years. We simply loft every available nuke into high orbit along with some bomb-pumped x-ray lasers and put new nukes into full production. The Klingons pull into orbit (3-6 ships for arguments sake) and are the lucky recipients of these kind and thoughtful gifts...
Under the cover of the initial explosions, we launch every nuke available to hit their fleet. If we are lucky, we do enough damage to send them packing. If not, they beam down...and the real party starts. WIthout orbital assistance, (hopefully the remaining nukes and lasers in orbit keep them busy) it will become a war of attrition. They beam in do some damage take some casualties and beam out. Eventually (assuming no re-inforcements), they will run out of troops.
Don't know about capturing the Klingon ships. We would need one of their shuttles or some way of beaming aboard.
