Wal-Mart, The Sniper, and Wal-Mart "Morals"

In there ever brilliant strategy to look "Good" Wal-Mart has pulled several video games from their shelves because of "violent" content, and the fact that they have Sniper Rifles in them.
Some of these titles include the Tom Clancy Rainbow 6 series.

Yet with their incredible brilliance, Grand Theft Auto 3 is not on the list.

Well, the people at Wal-Mart are idiots. Perhaps if someone kills osmeone with a 2x4, they'll ban games with 2x4s in them. I don't know why they didn't go out of business yet.

Guess the fact that your fighting
terrorists in R6 never occurred to anyone.

Or the fact that shooting a hostage instantly fails the mission for you.

If they pull 'Enemy at the Gates' from their DVD collection I permenantly empty a Wal-Mart with a stack of C4 that masses in at roughly equal to the Bismarck.

"If the snipers didn't have violence in their life, I don't think they'd be as violent as they are. I agree wholeheartedly with Wal-Mart in taking the video games off. And I think they should stay off," said Bobbie Harkey, a Tierrasanta resident and Wal-Mart customer.
Yep. Tribes Aerial Assault has honed my l33t skills into a vicious machine devoted entirely to carnage, annhilation, and death.
Specifically, yours.
I'm coming. Be afraid, for I am deadly with the plasma rifle.
Now someone get me my jetpack.
SHAZBOT FOREVER!

While we're at it, let's ban the U.S. Army too.

Terminator?
WTF!?
I don't see Counter-Strike or HL anywhere(When you can gun down thousands of hostages! have over sixty sniper rifles aviable if you count the Mods as well)
And come the fuck on... TRIBES? Where you fly around in planes and Jet-Paks oh and don't forget that funny fact that a sniper rifle in that game is best described as almost but not quite leathal

Reminds me of post September 11 when EVERY MS flight sim was pulled, along with Crimson Skies (depicted dogfights over Manhattan), RA2 (you could destroy the WTC etc), Black Thorn (delayed and had the airliner level removed)... This was in Australia, and yes, they are all back on the shelves in an unchanged form.
I'm sure there are more examples of this kind of thing.
So remember people: Its not religion, up-bringing, psychological problems, the availability of firearms or even one of a thousand other social problems... ITS VIDEO GAMES THAT TURN PEOPLE INTO KILLERS AND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
So next time you feel the urge to play a video game: remember that you are taking another step towards becoming a mass murderer.

I have ammassed so many combat hours in FPS's that I should open a VFW stand in my hometown....I'm probably a threat to society because of this....

Hey, why not ban America's Army as well? It teaches you realistic squad combat tactics and how to work in a group, especially all those shiny guns the National Guard has...
Idiots.
Did they ban Hitman 2?

Did they ban Hitman 2?
Did they ban UnrealTournament? That game has a sniper rifle too.
PS. Wal-Mart still sells actual rifles. Think about the irony of pulling videogames off the shelf if they contain rifles, while continuing to sell the actual rifles themselves.

Maybe Wal-Mart should ban shopping carts. Every time I go into my local Wal-Mart several people nearly kill me with the dang things.

The irony is razor sharp.
Speaking of which, why not ban knives as well? They did hijack a plane with paper cutters before... Idiots.

Idiot author of the article wrote:The video games that are being recalled feature snipers targeting and killing innocent people.
WTF? Since WHEN does Rogue Spear have the player target and kill innocent people? Oh, I get it. Those guys are only playing with those AKs, and since they're not sniper rifles, those guys are not BAD. But since Rainbow uses sniper rifles, they are naughty, naughty boys.
Sheesh, the game doesn't even have as much blood as, say, Operation Flashpoint (where you also can use sniper rifles! Run for your lives!)
Oh well...fortunately, I'm not dependant on wal-mart to buy MY games

Why is it considered "Liberal" to ban something? Banning and limiting things falls under the "Conservative" catagory does it not?

Neither of those terms should really be used in this case but they are being used in a way typical of U.S. politics.
The supposed left (Democrats) are discribed as liberal while the supposed right (Repulicans) are discribed as conservative. There are times when those terms fit but there are plenty when they don't.
In the U.S. the "liberals" are typically seen as wanting to ban things that can hurt people while the "conservatives" also like to ban things that can hurt people.
The funny thing is that the "liberals' generally like to protect people from guns, to the point of wanting to ban them in some cases, but they want people to be able to make their own decisions in personal matters like sex, drugs, alchohol etc... Now the "conservatives' like to ban certain elements of what the "liberals" think people should be deciding for themselves but they don't like many restrictions on guns, choosing instead to primarilly hold individual offenders accountable for their own deeds while allowing (with some restrictions) the law abiding public to go hog wild with guns.

Good old Flash Point, and that game also lets you kill a couple civilians before failing.

Does this NOT describe how America works, or what?
