Yet another piece of the '70's returns, my friends. CNN reports that TimeWarner has released the first VHS and DVDs of this country humor favorite. The show itself ran from 1969 to 1997, and featured down-home humor, lovely ladies, country music, and over the years some of the top stars of Nashville, TV & Movie stars, and even Senator Robert C Byrd made guest appearances.

" 'Hee Haw' won't go away," said Roy Clark, host or co-host of the show for its entire run. "It brings a smile to too many faces."

Byrd was invited in 1979 after he recorded a record of his own, "Mountain Fiddle," which features standards like "Turkey in the Straw" and "Cumberland Gap." He reprised those songs, and more, on the program.
Byrd, who then was Senate majority leader, was a regular viewer of the show and welcomed the invitation.
He and his wife Erma traveled to Nashville for the taping. Erma Byrd can be seen, sitting on a hay bale, clapping in time to her husband's fiddle. Two shows, which aired Sept. 15, 1979, and Nov. 10, 1979, were recorded in the same session.
"I enjoyed it tremendously," Byrd said.

I know that there's more than one 'OldTimer' that remembers this show as fondly as I do, just as I know that some of you young wippersnappers are going to ask "HeeHaw? What's that?"

wow. i remember actually watching this series as a kid. i haven't even thought about it in years.

I remember when Hee-Haw was the ONLY thing resembling entertainment on TV on a saturday night.
I hated it!

The babes were wearing "Daisy Dukes" years before the "Dukes of Hazzard."

At the time they were called "Daisey Mays," after the "Lil Abner" cartoon character.

I never knew 'HeeHaw' was an actual show. I thought it was just made up for the purpose of building redneck jokes. You learn something new every day I guess.

Interesting fact: Elvis was a huge fan of "Hee Haw" and actually wanted to appear on it, but his controlling manager, Colonel Parker, wouldn't hear of it. That might be one of the smarter moves the Colonel made for Elvis...

Dunno about that, Hee Haw was a very popular show, it could ave payed off for him.

Yeah, but it would have contributed to Elvis' image of being a hick. Although him appearing as a musical guest could have been appropriate. He's in the country Hall of Fame afterall... You're right though, that show was HUGE hit.

I think it would be interesting to see a map of the United States showing how many HeeHaw DVDs/Videos were bought in what areas.

"Hee Haw" was the country equivalant of "Laugh in."
Shows like "Mr. Ed," My favourite Martian," UFO," were on, and "Hee haw" is improbable?
