I know I shouldn't be laughing

Post by Stravo »

I've stumbled across this movie called "Jackass the Movie" I've heard of this film, I know about the show but have never actually really sat down to watch any of it. I'm watching this movie knowing that I should not be laughing at these infantile physical comedy jokes but damn if I'm not laughing out loud or fighting back the gag reflex. (I defy you to watch the intentional infliction of paper cuts between the fingers and toes and not want to hurl - as the camera man did)

Fuck, have I regressed?!?! Oh and Steve O is NOT welll in the head.

I saw parts of it at a party once and had the same reaction. I think the worst was either the yellow snowcone clip or the part where they had a milk chugging contest which ended with projectile vomiting. It was the most stupid and disgusting shit which I've ever seen but I was in hysterics for some reason. It's just so disgustingly stupid it's funny.

The paper cut part is where they got the most hurling in the test audiences and they gauged that as a success.

I didn't mind the webbing between the toes and fingers (I mean it would hurt like hell, only morons would do it), but the lips and eyelids is where I drew the line!

If you liked "Jackass: The movie", you might want to check out the Bumfightsvideos which are available from the rotten.com store. Warning, this stuff is even more extreme and disgusting than the Jackass movie.

I rather hate Jackass.

The ability to hurt oneself does not make good entertainment. (To me at least.)

The only Jackass segments I enjoyed are the ones centered around misbehavior. Partyboy in Japan was hilarious... he dances around the streets of Tokyo in nothing but a glitter speedo and tennis shoes, gyrating right up next to pedestrians and even a police officer (IIRC). And people don't do anything, they just walk around him and try not to look.

Then there was when Johnny Knoxville had the old-guy makeup on and tried to shoplift. "Is this how you treat an old man?"

It's like the song says "If your gonna be stupid, you have to be tough."

I think parts of the show are funny. I find humor in people getting injured. My favorite part of the movie is at the end after the credits.

Watching the show is interesting on a anthropological/sociological sense. You can definetly see that Johnny Knoxville is by far and above the Alpha Male, with all the other lesser Jackass's trying to do even more dangerous/stupid shit to impress him.

PS I loved how they were terrorising one of their dads (they did something in the toilet, the guitar palying while he was sleeping, and the fireworks in the car)

That was Bam Margera, and they gave him his own new show, Viva la Bam. I actually like that one, because it almost totally cut out the weird self-mutilation and concentrates on him messing around with MTV funding.

The problem I have is that on an intellectual level I'm telling myself this is awful I shouldn't be laughing at this, its grotesque and childish but find myself laughing outloud, at some points wiping tears from my eyes and I don't get it!

I think Jackass is a fantastic show that promotes the Darwin Awards and Natural Selection.

It's like The Three Stooges. It's just a bunch of doofuses hurting themselves and each other (though I should point out that Stooges shorts are FAR more intelligent than any given Jackass episode).

that one show was just about steve-o being on PCP annoying everybody. the video comes with the handy name:

The only time i've really found Jackass hilarious was the time they had a dead skunk attached to a remote control car and they were driving it around. Not sure why I found that side-splittingly funny, but I did.

One of the stupid things Steve O did was have his ball shot at whit a fire hose, and a few weeks ago i saw on the news a guy using a special high pressure water gun(can someone tell me whats the name of this thing)anyway after seeing that i thought maybe SO should have his balls shot with that thing.

Kill two birds with one stone(make people laugh and prevent the jerk of having kids)

I hear Dirty Sanchez is actually a lot worse in terms of stunts, but I've only ever watched the Jackass series.

Nope, I hear that was CKY.

I have friends who are enthusiasts, even making their own series.

I like viva la bam much more. It's actually funny. Though jackass had it's moments. What always gets me laughing with VLB is when they subtitle Vito's rambling...The way it actually sounds.
