Most people fall around the 900-1,000 range, IIRC. My 1500 put me in the top 1% of people taking the test that year, but its not the hardest test in the world.
Its somewhat norm-referenced, I believe.

That is ... well at least we now know that his counting skills match his verbal skills, man I want to see his SAT's scores now (or whatever the SAT's were called back then).
Yup, SAT.
I believe it was like a 1270 or something. Pathetic.
1270 is a low score? What the fuck?
It was 1206, I believe, BTW.
I'm pretty sure an SAT score rounds off to the 10s, so an '06 doesn't seem right to me. And yes, SATs have been adjusted in recent years. They made the verbal count for more since girls do better in verbal and had lower scores than boys.
I got a 1400, I don't mind saying.

SAT's are not all they are cracked up to be. They really mean nothing, since there are many who do excellently in high level college courses. SAT's are stupid. You answer random vocabulary questions that you never come across in highschool, and the rest is fill in the blank and ludicrous analogies that mean nothing. I hated my SAT.
The only normal part was the math, and I suck at math
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I think I got an 1120 or seomthing, but my math was pathetically low.

I don't quite follow your logic there. People do well in college, therefore the SATs don't mean anything? How does that follow?
And IP, you're a very naughty necromancer.

I suppose he means that people who don't do well on SATs still do well in college?
Anyway, I'm quite proud of my 1330 on my first shot damn it, and I saw no reason to go out and try harder. Or even worry. Fuck the SAT, I hated it, I liked my score, and I wasn't wasting another Saturday.
Anyway, how is 1270 pathetic? That seems like a fairly decent score to me... Although I can say that I got a higher SAT than the POTUS. hehehe

Of course you have a college degree, you've been to college! We'll see how things are in five years' time.

They change it all the time. -shrugs-
I got a 146 on my PSAT in 7th grade. Got a 29 on my ACT (after 1.5 hours of sleep, mind you) where my math score was a 32/36, language was 31/36, reading was 26/36 and science was 25/36 (the first time I took it, I got 28, 28, 26, 28). So meh.
Never did take the SAT, though. It's a lot easier than that ACT, though (judging by the SAT being easier than the PSAT and the PSAT being easier than the ACT).

Not to mention the many study guides & "coaching" seminars (where they practically give you the SAT) which are available for SATs..for a price of course. They're not going to help you that much on the math section, you need to do your own work & have solid skills for that, but for the language & verbal it's almost a free gimme, at least I found it so.

760 SAT I Verbal, 670 SAT I Math, first and only try. No prep of any sort. I had similar scores on each section of the SAT II, but my percentile went way down. Offhand, I'd say that SAT Prep classes can help, but they're kinda expensive.

I got a 1350 with no preparation. 650 math 700 verbal. I'm disappointed with myself

The SATI is a retarded test. I scored 800 verbal, 650 math on my first and only try, and honestly, it wasn't difficult. The verbal test especially is a joke. You just have to have a big vocabulary -- what the hell kind of test is that to judge our nation's young people by? Am I better than someone else because I know more obscure words? I should hope not.
Anyways, I went and celebrated my awesome SAT score by going to community college.

1400 after sorta reading a SAT book. 730 verbal, 670 math which surprised me greatly since I'm math/science oriented.

1510 on my first and only try. 790 verbal, 720 math. I thought it was going to be the other way around, heh.
Some of my friends tried coaching, with mixed results. Some people it helps a lot, others don't improve their scores at all.

They're adding an essay section so people can't beat the system anymore. Now, you actually have to demonstrate your intelligence, rather than just master a slick method to answer multiple choice questions.

1360, really fucking sick the day I took it so I know I could have done better but...fuck it, it's just the SAT.

by RedImperator
1360, which is nice but not fantastic. However, my verbal score was 800, and I am proud of that. I really wish I'd worked harder at math in high school for a number of reasons; I probably could have cracked 1500 if I'd put as much effort into learning math as I should have.
EDIT: Oddly enough, when I took my GRE last year, I gained more than 100 points on my math score even though at that point I hadn't had a serious math class since 1999. And I flunked that class.
And since all of you are bandying about your fancypants SAT scores, allow me to mention I aced my PRAXIS (teacher's professional liscensing exam).

I never took the SAT. Instead, I took the ACT, because I was under the impression that more universities gave the ACTs more consideration than the SATs.
I didn't do any sort of preparation for it whatsoever. I just went over to Kirkwood one morning, took it once, and that was it.
I got something like a 26.

1370 SAT score second try (710 verbal, 660 math) after taking taking a course. The first time I took them it was in the 1100 range but I had the flu (high school shore-leave affliction) and had not taken a prep course...
SAT II scores are more indicative of academic skills IMO.
I got a 5 (top score possible) on my AP US History test and that's my best pre-college testing achievement.
Honestly though, SAT scores simply exist for colleges to come up with a minimum score for applicants, and a score that they consider impressive which helps the applicant but at the same time colleges are more interested in extra-cirruculars, classes taken, and the grades students got in those classes.
For the most competative colleges, good SATs are necessary but not sufficient on their own.

Those coaching courses and guide books seem to do very little, statistically. While some people will probably do much better with them, the average is only one or two extra correct responses after coaching than before.
