I finally have a permanent job!

After being unemployed, underemployed, temping, or working as a contractor since 10/2002, I've been given an offer letter. Whew! Just goes to show you how bad the economy is where I live.

Starting Tuesday I'm a full time, salaried employee with benefits. Its good cause I have no medical, but I'm giving up overtime. Oh well, at least the pay is halfway decent.

Asking 'would you like fries with that?' isn't part of the job description is it?

Because this is the USA, and we speak Spanish here too. And any other fucking language, because the USA has no official language. We are supposed to be a melting pot, a place where everyone from everywhere is welcomed into our culture, and where we encourage people to bring their cultures with them. To bring their ideas with them. To bring their languages with them. We are not, contrary to what it would see, a very WASP nation. Me, I come from German and British heritage, but I'm not entirely white, I've got 1/8th Long Island Native American blood in me. Lot's of people I know are part native as well, but you'd never suspect. South Florida is very latin, and Spanish is the ONLY foreign language offered at my school. In parts of Miami, English is unnecessary.

Saber, you need to remember that the USA is not a good English country. We are everyone from everywhere. Multinational heritage is good, and multilingualism is even better.

Multilingualism sucks balls, as any English-speaking Canadian will tell you.

Most every textbook I've seen listing official languages disagrees with you.

Congrats Jawa. Remember to try to manipulate things so that your employers can't fire you without screwing themselves over. :)

Especialy in India where they have 15 official languages. Indians outside the hindi speaking provinces must learn three different languages - english, their mother tongue and hindi.

Shame they're all wrong, ey?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_language
http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_lang.html
http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20011107.html
http://archive.aclu.org/library/pbp6.html

And if you search FirstGov.gov for information on an official language, you find none. Why? Because the United States hs no official language.
