Stupid question, but...

So how did all the better known members of the board (those with custom titles, 9000+ posts, etc.) get to be there? Time? Lots of posts? Debunking of idiots? Knowing other board members? Just curious, as I really kinda like how there are a bunch of well known members whom most respect and look up to.

And is there a thread or something where we can learn about our fellow posters?

Not to name names, but there is a certain feline who likes to consider themself "evil" which happen to have quite a high number of posts consisting of "me toos" and empty statements. That's the lower end of the posting spectrum. Then you have people like say Necronlord who put a lot of time into this board and make meaningful posts a LOT.

Then of course there's the middle people, who just post whenever. So there you have it, high post count 101.

I'm probably being dense, but hey, I'm curious: High post count 101?

This (topic) actually came to mind when I saw fgalkin's custom title and I thought to myself "Hey, I want that. But nobody knows me. Oh well." It's something I'll work up to, I guess.

Edit: Thank goodness for the edit button. :)

It's making a joke of school class titles. Y'know, English 101, Biology 306. 101's generally the lowest-level course (although the nearby public uni starts with 1001).

Some of us have been around for a while. I started out as a "comment-on-everything" poster. I think I'm a bit more sedate now, and I'm usually not on much during the summer (this is my first time one since the end of April), since I'm away from the college network and on a 56k modem. A lot of people will get involved in topics. I remember getting about 20 posts just arguing with a particular poster about the influence of the Lend-Lease Act on Soviet Russia's war effort in WWII (and no, it wasn't fgalkin). Flaming trolls in the Sewer used to be a big thing, too, back when the invasions used to occur. And then there's just normal posting, asking about stuff others know about, et al.

Thanks for the clarification.
