Upgrade Canada's Military

You the reader of this thread(providing you decide to reply to it.) are tasked with the duty of restoring Canada's Military to it's former Glory. For the sake of this debate a Demi-God of some type we'll call him "Lairdchaumboba" or something... has granted you the Minsiter of Defense Canadas GNP (approx 1.7 Trillion Dollars Canadian). Canada will not suffer the loss of the GNP for the reason of the Demi-God saying so.(Hey it works for Alot of other threads in the OST...it can work here too.)
So you have $1.7 trillion Canadian to work with(1,247,950,139,250.46 USD). What would you do first? What would you order from your Nato Allies? would you train the armed forces diffrently? New Weapon for grunts? Once your military is built what do you recommend Canada does with it's new force?

Oh you can't draft more then 20% of the population between (18-40) this includes women.

I buy several retired SSBNs from the US and proceed to set up
an independent deterrent

I would build a large number of secure, nuclear ICBM silos, as well as an advanced tactical nuclear weapons program. Canada just doesn't have the population to support a large, volunteer, standing military, and I'm guessing peacetime drafts wouldn't go over too well up there.

Hmm...on second thought, with that sort of money, it might be possible to raise the pay scale for soldiers so that it beats out anything in the private sector. Might even have enough left over for a real, blue-water navy, too. :)

Yeah, so? I said a peacetime draft wouldn't go over well, that's why I suggested the pay raise to get more volunteers.

For that much I'd put at least a few lasers in orbit. Even if you just get one shot out of them...

Nukes. Might as well put all the waste from our nuclear reactors to good use, reprocess the waste, enrich it, and build nukes. Then we load them into cars & trucks and park them in every sizable US city and force them to sign over the country to us, and if they refuse, kaboom! Or we could buy a few nuclear missle subs from the States and nuke some countries for fun. No one will ever believe that a)we own nuke subs, and b)we'd actually nuke a country.

But seriously, new ships and helicoptors for the navy & coastguard search & rescue, new planes for the Snowbirds and the rest of our airforce, and I don't have a clue about the army, but going by posts from others stocking up on ammo would be a good start. And nukes, just in case those hicks in the States get any funny ideas about invading us.

Stupid Canadians would probably ask for permission before pressing the button. You are no match for your blood thirsty southern neighbors.

Proof that our propaganda campaign is working. Everyone thinks we're the big friendly country, and then they get whacked between the head with a volley of nukes.

Realistically?

Upgrade and enhance sealift capacity. Canada is a peacekeeper military. To do that you need to get your peacekeepers to where the peace a needs a keeping. So Canada needs to invest in some Gator Navy along with perhaps a better Blue Water Navy in the Force Projection area. Some cute British Carriers. :P

Expand the actualy deployable Army regiments and perhaps an actual stock of BBB's for them. Hell, with the money, get some prepositioned gear on some of that Gator Navy. :P

New aircraft all around, some old M1s perhaps, new basic equipment for infantry and such. The rest pour into logistics.

$1.7 trillion is a fuckload of money to spend all at once, but over-expansion of the military would create a huge budgetary burden in future years, where these magical giant infusions of cash do not occur.

So spend less. It's just an upper limit to keep retards from ordering fifty nuclear carriers. :-p

Order equal numbers of Carrier Groups and Nuclear Subs, like, say 6-7. And make the pay for the army so great everyone wants to join. And get some nukes, buy Greenland, get some nice shiny guns....etc. And by Nuclear Subs, I mean Ballistic Missile Submarines. Like Red October. With the silent caterpillar drive. BWAHAHAHA! We will conduct missile drills while we listen to their rock and roll....Oh, and hire Sean Connery to train our new Navy. In the field of acting. So we can have a Navy full of potential James Bonds.

And as a last note, I would probably leave whatever is left over to help finance the Canadian Shadow Military. They're watching you.

Buy 4 Nimitz class carriers for force projection. Equip the carriers with F-18s and Join Strike Fighters.

Get some F-22s and F-15s for the airforce.

Buy several LHDs for carrying troops to overseas.

Equip the Navy with Spruance, Kidd and Arleigh Burke class warships.

Buy Los Angelos class attack subs for the navy and Ohio class subs for strategic deterrence.

Buy M1A2 tanks and M109A6 Paladins for the army.

Increase troop numbers to 1 million.

Seriously, get Canadian nukes, and buy five modified Wasp class
LHAs from Newport News.

Why?

Wasps are 844 feet long, and displace 40,500 tons, and
are capable of deploying 20 VTOL fighters, or 42 assault
helicopters, along with landing a sizeable contigent of
forces.

It shouldn't be that hard to have Newport News design a LHA(C)
with a hundred foot exension of the hull, making them 944 feet long,
and capable of operating F-18 Hornets in the CTOL role, and capable
of carrying a little more marines and their equipment.

Canada would obtain a multi role ship fleet that by simply changing
out the carrier air wing, would be able to do conventional strikes,
invade and hold a stretch of land, or do ASW work. With 40~ helos
that you can hold, man it would be a hell of a n effective CVS.

And it would fit in with post WWI Canadian defence patterns, of having
a small army, ever since you guys raised a big army and gave it to the
British in WWI, who slaughtered it on the Western Front.

And since it would be a multi-role ship, and not a dedicated CV platform,
it would be a little less capable, but would be capable of surviving the
inevitable budgetary cuts as the Armed Forces can point to all the
capabilities that it allows them on a single hull.

1) Make sure all our soldiers are completely on par in everyway with the next generation american soldier.

2) Order up some heavy lift capability and proper sea transport.
(Probably a few of those Wasp carriers like Shep suggested)

3) For armor I would get a bunch of Leopard 2A5's and replace our old Leopard 1's with Swedish S-Tank 103's just cause I absolutely love the design and its features. :)

4) For aircraft, 100 F-22's and then 200 JSFs with a bunch in the STOVL configuration for the carriers.
