My first major accident....

What a day. I've been in a couple of minor accidents (none were my fault) when I had my Grand Am and came out unscathed while the other car needed a few hundred dollars in repairs but today was different. I was going south on a one way street and this woman in a city truck (who was in a lane to my right) signalled and a couple of seconds later turns left *IN FRONT OF ME*. Obviously I slammed on the brakes but it wasn't enough. The truck clipped the front right corner of my car, crushing part of the quarter panel, wrecking both marker lights, crushed part of the bumper and pushed in the headlight (the type that flips up and down).

I've just finished talking to the insurance people and I hope the woman that caused the collision doesn't try to bullshit her way and say it was my fault.

That's not the kind of thing someone who's learning to drive wants to read about.

As long as you have a copy of the police report you should be in good shape -- sounds like a clear cut illegal left turn at the least :)

I was driving on SR60 today heading for school and some idiot driving an old minivan nearly turns straight into a motorcycle right next to it -- and in front of me(!) It looked like the minivan's driver just barely realized it in time and swerved back into his lane

Always drive like it's your responsibility to keep everyone safe, because everyone else on the road is drunk, crazy, or both.

Yup. But one thing I learned from the insurance. The police may put fault on whoever caused the accident but between the involving insurance companies the fault can change. I just hope the woman who caused the accident doesn't try to place the blame on me.

accidents are learning experiences. Just be glad your airbags didn't go off, because that fucking sucks, although decidedly less sucky than cracking your head on the steering wheel. See, thats what i learned from my accident experience. Well, that, and the fact Dodge Neons are primarily constructed of plastic and styrofoam.

Thanks. As an update, I got my car appraised for the cost of repairing it and it would cost the insurance company $1500 to fix my car. But since I only paid $975 for my car, it will most likely be considered a total loss and they be paying me the market value of my car.

I wonder what is the market value of a 1990 Toyota Corolla SR5, 2D, 1.6L?

According to Kelly Blue Book and using some generic criteria, about 1,850.00. you should do it and fill in the more specific info I didn't have access to.

I went to that site and came out with a value of $1450USD. Not bad since I paid $975 CAD for the car.
