Worse than alt.flame, alt.atheism.*, soc.culture.[insert radical fruitcake group here], alt.config, or news.groups? I doubt it.Stormbringer wrote:Generally considered the roughest newsgroup on the 'net. More flames the devil's living room, more fucks than a vietnamese whorehouse, and insults beyond count.
I know it's unlikely. I'd just like to see him show up here though. He's one of my favorite writers and one of the all time great wise asses.Dalton wrote:Good luck. Chuck's busy enough as is

news:alt.startrek.vs.starwars into your browser's address bar.
Note that this will only work if you've configured a news (NNTP) server in your network preferences.

I personally don't have a news server (usually either you pay for it, or it comes with your dialup account, or you can get a crappy free one). I always use Google.verilon wrote:Can you link it?Dalton wrote:It's a newsgroup. alt.startrek.vs.starwars
There was once a time when it was almost completely dominated by rabid Trekkies. Some of the insane ideas that both sides swiftly dismiss as the ravings of morons today (eg- the "E-D can shrug off a Deathstar superlaser with its nav deflector" idea) were quite widely accepted as perfectly reasonable logic at the time.Slartibartfast wrote:It's alt.startrek.vs.starwars (startrek first, starwars second). I suppose because it's some kind of subgroup to the startrek group.
As I said you have to have a news server address configured in MS Outhouse (I'm assuming you're using Windows) for news: URLs to work from Exploder's address bar.verilon wrote: Says that no group is found at that address...
Yup, and thanks to your, and others, efforts those of us who have been at ASVS for only a couple of years, now have no serious opposition to entertain us. You first ones culled off the trekkies to such a degree that I am thinking that we need to declare the rabid trekkie a endangred species, and preserve them so our grandchildren can mock them, as we ourselfs once mocked them. I am not sure if I should thank you or curse you.Darth Wong wrote:There was once a time when it was almost completely dominated by rabid Trekkies. It was during those dark days that a few intrepid flame warriors such as Lord Poe and myself waged the fierce battles of old, slaying the greatest of the trolls, scattering their minions, and forcing them to retreat to their underground lair. In effect, the most successful invasion ever undertaken. Most invasions seek only to cause havoc; ours was undertaken without formal organization, but with the larger goal of conquering the target, occupying it, and driving out its oppressors.

How about both? Thank him for showing them the light and driving away the evil trekkies. Curse him for denying us the pleasure of crushing them ourselves.Stuart Mackey wrote:Yup, and thanks to your, and others, efforts those of us who have been at ASVS for only a couple of years, now have no serious opposition to entertain us. To this day, even the Trekkies on the group (with the exception of the occasional idiot like Darkstar, who will soon be kill-filed and relegated to obscurity) recognize that an all-out war between the Empire and the Federation would easily result in Imperial victory, and they have reduced their goals to smaller victories.
