College Football Champion

My beloved Crimson Tide will not win the national championship this year (or next), because they're on probation. But I do foresee at least four unbeatens rising to the top and making it to bowl games. A BCS foul-up in the making, have we? So, who takes the crystal football this year?

Been an ND fan since I was a kid. Go Fighting Irish!

I went with Oklahoma because they seem to have demolished some very good teams on a regular basis. Good offense with a tough defense.

Notre Dame's partial ass whoopin' of FSU yesterday was largely turn-over related. They are definately good but without that help I don't think they're good enough for Oklahoma.

Georgia was looking pretty good in the second half against Kentucky. First half wasn't so good though. Not that they played poorly but Kentucky was giving them a pretty good run.

Here is my scenario:

Miami loses to Virginia Tech, so they're out. Oklahoma, N.D., and Georgia win out to the end of their respective seasons. Oklahoma beats ND in the Fiesta Bowl to take the crystal football, while Georgia is left out in the cold, competing for second place. Endstate: BCS fails yet again, and it's time for a playoff system. Division II and Division IAA college football have playoff systems, so there is no excuse for Division IA not to do the same.

Ahh, I know it's not going to happen. But I'll say it anyway.

GT, GT!!!!!

At least I know Georgia isn't going anywhere near the National Championship, once Georgia Tech demolishes them this year. Lets just hope A.J. Suggs can throw a decent pass by then.

Right, right, we're going to wipe the FLOOR with Tech.

Seriously, I think there's going to be four unbeatens at the end of the year: Miami, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Georgia. Miami plays Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl (sorry Virginia Tech, but Miami is just the better team here) and Georgia plays Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Split national championship, that's the only way to be fair. And kill the damn BCS and let's have some goddamn playoffs.

And as for our performance against Kentucky during the first half; holding back a 300 lb. quarterback who is leading the best scoring offense in the country is not an easy task.

Ditto. I think it's great that a black coach is finally succeeding and leading a team to victory and blahblahblah, but I still hate Notre Dame. And I know it doesn't sound right, coming from me, since we've had our fair share of luck down here at UGA this year, but the Irish have to be the most lucky fucking team ever. Did you see that FSU game? First, an FSU lineman knocks the ball out of the QB's hand (IIRC) and it BOUNCES RIGHT BACK UP, PERFECTLY, into his hands and he completes the play. Amazing.

Also, FSU was playing like absolute shite. Their QB was doing one hell of a job, but the receivers performed so horribly that his efforts were ultimately in vain.

Fine explain the other 7 wins. Air Force was #17 at the time ND beat them. Maryland was supposed to be top 5 this year. Face it, the Irish rock this year and that makes college football as a whole better.

And you can't just take away NDs defense and then compare them to other teams. Thats stupid. Thats like saying "Oregon is good but lets take away their quarterback". Its an essential part of anyteam. Some teams are just better in some respects than others. If you want to compare teams, compare entire teams, not dissected versions.

Yeah, that one receiver dropped, what FIVE passes?! And he looked at it like "I can't believe this? It just won't stay in my hands!"

oh, and WE get Tech first. NCSU plays GT this weekend and we will show them what it's like to get their asses whooped!

Nah, Ga. Tech already knows what it's like to get their asses beat (ask Maryland, Clemson and Wake Forest, plus they've got three more losses on the way), you'll just be reiterating it to them.

My Miami Hurricanes will repeat in '03!

I don't even care if Dorsey wins the Heisman.

Very much a distinct possibility. I don't know what all the crap is about how Virginia Tech is going to beat Miami; they're not.

Three reasons they have a chance:
1) Suggs and Jones against the Canes' unexpectedly soft run D (so far).
2) VT's defense pressuring Dorsey and slowing down McGahee.
3) VT's special teams is the best in the land.

Gotta give Beamer credit. He does a lot with relatively little.

That said, I predict the Canes win 35-24.

Speaking of which, Bowden just benched Rix. McPherson will start against Wake Forest.

That's unfair. Rix threw some great passes on Saturday, it's just that his receivers sucked so damn bad that the poor guy couldn't do a damn thing. Oh well...

I didn't say they sucked, I said that I hated them.

Rumor has it they don't like Rix, hence they're deliberately dropping balls or not running their routes.

Of course, as a Canes fan, I believe everything negative I hear about the Gators and Noles.
