Oh it'll happen sooner or later, especially given past examples like France in 2002/2003 against the U.S. I'm also sure that at some point down the road, Cardassia would probably be the same way, but we have no way of knowing unless there's a DS9 movie.

Side-Note (In the relaunch novels A Stitch in Time and Worlds of ST:DS9 Volume 1 - Cardassia/Andor, however, the situation is precarious at best. The newphew of the late Legate Ghemor, of Second Skin and Ties of Blood and Water is the elected head of the democratic provisional government. But most members of the former military, from Evek to Madred are working to get it overthrown and the military running the show again. The latter book is especially relevant and gripping in the post-Iraq war situation and suicide bombings -hint-; I highly recommend picking it up if you either follow the DS9 relaunch or need a good Trek book to read).

Is it actually *canon*? I mean Trek novels these days are probably
the best thing in Trek, since they're mostly being written by real writers
who have been doing this for twenty years (Peter David, etc), but in
the end it's just so much wasted paper if they're not at
least Canon/Official.

Paramount sanctions them, but it's not considered canon; the sole exception could be the Garak novel A Stitch in Time since it is written by Andrew J. Robinson (Garak), with part of it dealing with Garak's backstory. If you're interested, here's the list and brief summaries of the current novels out there:

* A Stitch in Time

* The Left Hand of Destiny: Two book duology that focuses on Martok and Worf and the future of the Empire.

* The Lives of Dax: Anthology with stories about all 9 Dax hosts; the Ezri portions take place after the finale.

* Avatar: Two Book duology and the 8th 'season premiere' of the relaunch novels.

* Section 31: Abyss: The DS9 entry into the Section 31 series.

* Gateways: Demons of Air and Darkness: The DS9 entry into the Gateways series.

* Gateways: Of Horn and Ivory: Conclusion to the DS9 entry.

* Mission Gamma: Four-book series that deals with the new Defiant resuming Federation exploration of the Gamma Quad. while Starfleet prepares to accept Bajor into the Fed.

* Rising Son: Deals with Jake who at this point of the season has been MIA since Avatar.

* Unity: 'Season finale', bringing subplots from Avatar, What you Leave Behind, and even Emissary to a head.

* Worlds of Deep Space Nine: Trilogy of two novellas each set after Unity that deals with the worlds shown on DS9. Book 1 focuses on Cardassia and Andor, book two on Trill and Bajor, and book three on the Dominion and Feringinar; only Book 1 is out right now.

We don't need to *find* you. All we need to do is find New Zealand.

A few B-61 party favors should cover all of NZ with instant sunrise

Bad Shep! Side tracking your own thread...

I have no idea what to call this or where to put it. I guess to HoS, Shep can retitle and place.

Given the level of American Geographical Education these days on top of the going rate for American Military Intelligence, I would say that they still run out of fuel looking for New Zealand and crash into Wisconsin.
