Olympic Question.

We know the saying "The important is to participate not to win" but do you consider it true,or just a load of bullshit?

The reason i'm asking this is every olympics since Pierre De Coubertin started them in 1896,everyone remembers who won the gold,who won the silver and on a lesser case who won the bronze,but does the world care who came in 4th place or 12th in any event no,so why are we fed these lies when only winners count.

It depends on who it's important to. Participating in the Olympics is a huge honor in and of itself. To the person participating, that is a great accomplishment. Winning is important to those who want to be remembered, but then, noone really does actually remember who won gold. I sure don't. People only remember superstars, and the Olympics are not superstar-creating events.

edit: It's kind of like Ecochallenge. That is arguably harder than anything the Olympics has, but who the fuck watches it? Noone. Even tho the people that do the Ecochallenge could probably whoop ass at the Olympics in the n-athlons and similar endurance events. Again, there's no sensationalism.
