C2: the new low-carb Coca-Cola.

Has anyone else heard about this yet? I catered a business meeting for some Coke execs and distributors the other day. It was a meeting to cover the roll-out of the new low-carb Coke, C2. It's basically a blend of Diet and regular (and tastes about the same).
I didn't catch when it's hitting the streets, but I did get to see some the marketing stuff:
-- Consumers will feel smart for purchasing C2, because they are making a 'healthy diet choice'. (I still laugh when I think about that one. Highly corrosive sugar water is healthy because it's low in carbs? Riiiight.)
-- the theme song will be "You can't always get what you want" by the Rolling Stones. I know, no suprise that the Stones are still selling out, but sheesh, at least Zepplin is selling Caddies, and Dylan said 30 years ago if he ever sold out, it would be to sell "ladies undergarments".

Even then, I still won't get it with their new sized bottle.

We have enough variables of Coke as it is. Every new variation is that little bit less regular Coke I can find on my shop shelves. That will not stand.

Ahhh, and the low-carb craze claims another victim.
Every time there's a new diet craze, all the major food producers latch on to it and begin selling high-priced crap marketed directly at that demographic, who then eat it up with a spoon.

Ugh, low-card fanatics disgust me. I'd like to
gag them with a spoon.

It's weird though, the low carb diet craze is having quite an effect on food and beverage business. Even with BSE (Mad Cow) in the States, beef sales are 3-5% above last year (iirc), which is typcial growth for the beef industry. Grains are down, potatoes are down and so on. I'm sure the corn-syrup lobby has gone into battle mode.

And who loves the low-carb diet? That's right, baby boomers.

How do you have low-carb soda? Most of Coke's flavor comes from the fact that it's loaded with sugar (a simple carbohydrate). What the hell are they going to do, release unsweetened Coke? Replace it with anothe crap artificial sweetener? Re-release regular Coke, but re-label it with bullshit hokum like "net carbs"? I bet the third.

Not only that, but this insane thought of healthy sweets.
You want a healthy sweet treat...eat a goodamn apple.
Seriously this ranks up there with a low carb Krispy Kreme.

I figured this would happen eventually, soon, and you can quote me on this, we'll be seeing low-fat deep fried foods. Low fat KFC anyone?

C2 is sweetened with a blend of high-fructose corn syrup and Nutrasweet brand aspartame.

Isn't diet cola low-carb by default? I mean, something like Pepsi One with only one calorie can't exactly have that many carbs.

So, this is what, canned water with colouring? There's jack shit in cola as it is without Coke making something like this.

Hmmm...0 carbs. Why can't people just drink diet if their so interested in carbs?

*gag*
Aspratame is the devils sweetener! Damn it, it's bad enough that they defiled Diet Coke with it!

A horrible allergic reaction to artificial sweeteners (like me, for instance)? It takes like it was featured in that old bad joke about the Chinese? Baby Jesus cries every time you drink 12 ounces of it?

Hey, Crystal Pepsi kicked ass! It tasted like Pepsi, but it was clear like Sprite. What more could you want?

Personally, I think it's because most of those carb counters are nine kinds of retarded. But that's just my personal opinion.
As for Diet Coke, I actually like it just as well as regular Coke. It's Diet Cherry that I can't stand.

i actually kind of liked crystal pepsi myself, but it didn't exactly receive critical acclaim by the majority of the consumer base pepsi had.

This is getting bad when I walk up to people who claim they are healthier for drinking sugar water instead of "high carb milk and fruit juices". Goddam scourge of teh 70s returns.

I think the scoruge of the y70's is returning to make sure people like me(born in the late 80's) have to see the idiocy in action.
