This thread is very much inspired by Majin Gojira’s Buffy Season 6, The Dead Lesbian Cliche Stupidity(spoilers) in Fantasy, it just got me thinking how many examples are there in film and TV of same sex relationships that are still happily progressing when the credits roll I can only think of a few, is it just me or does most “Gay” cinema (aside from the porn which I really don’t know much about) seem to end upon a downbeat note?

Anyway for happy endings off the top of my head I can only think of:

Fucking Amal (also known as Show Me Love)
The Wedding Banquet
This Life series 2 – Ferdy and that Scottish bloke
Queer as Folk series 2 (crappy Thelma & Luise pastiche but still happy)

Am I missing something here are there lots of happy gay couples around but just in films and tv programmes I haven’t seen?

What about all those movies where Captain Pickard is gay?

South Park has a happy ending for Satan... Uh, nevermind.

Also, I saw a "comedy" that involved a bunch of gay couples, including two fundie boys, and they almost all had happy endings. It had that girl from Tank girl in it (one mark against, I'd say), and also had a scene where a bigot beats up one of the gay characters and then ends up getting raped in the ass by him (literally). The fact that the rapist had a happy ending bothered me. No rapist, gay or straight, should have a happy ending.

Sailor Moon(Haruka and Michiru). Of course, being senshi, they did end up dying at least once before that...

Bound, the Wachowski Brothers' first movie, has a happy ending for its lesbian protagonists.

The Birdcage ended happily, also.
