I've seen that one a few times. Now, watch me enter philosophy mode

The creator was probably trying to convey a deep philosophical meaning.
I think he was trying to say: "Turn around and face life! Stop hiding in a corner of your mind!"
The crabs represent ordinary people as the boy sees them...horrid-looking and dangerous. Of course, we all know that ordinary people are usually nice and some of them are very willing to help.
However, the boy is so afraid to face people, and reality, that his perception of people has been distorted into crabs.
As for Britney Spears, that's either for fun or just another representation of innocent, nice, ordinary people trying to help the boy...to cheer him up.
Unfortunately the people see that their efforts are of no success and leave the boy.

My favorite is Blode 4: Food Feed Fury.
But Blode 1 rocks. As does a lot of his really short stuff.
Jamie and the Magic Todger and Mark Llama are pretty funny.
The narration is one of the best aspects of these things.
