In terms of raw performance, PC. Only the most die-hard turtleneck-wearing kool-aid drinking Mac-head would think otherwise.

I do much prefer MacOS (hell, I have 8.1 running on my P3M-650), but the cost of switching would be too high for me.

There is major entrenchment in the DTP field and for midrange work, Final Cut Pro is becoming very popular.

Lemme find the Linux, there is a team of Linux fokes out there making a Linux based MAC emulation which they are promising a 100% Compatablity rating with only a 10% Preoframance hit....

I'll edit it in

Although Macs, IMO, have their advantages, I will never buy one. PCs all the way!

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Mac-On-Linux, which runs on top of LinuxPPC. I don't think that they're talking about an emulator like Basilisk II.

Different tools for different tasks. You don't pick up chicks in a tow truck, but you don't drag a wrecked car to the shop with a Ferrari, either.

Personally, I use a Mac because it's the only good non-Microsoft operating system. I'd use Linux on a cheap, custom-built rig, because PC hardware is faster and cheaper, but Mac OS X has spoiled me, in terms of GUI appearance and functionality.

Even so, I'd never use Windows for print work, because it has no color correction, and it feels like I'm kludging through everything I do. Similarly, editing houses like Macs precisely because Apple provides everything, which guarantees complete compatibility.

So, in terms of the OS user experience, OS X beats Windows XP savagely with a hammer, in my opinion.

In terms of hardware, it's the exact opposite. PC hardware is cheaper, and an equally-priced PC will likely crush the fastest available PowerMac in most benchmarks. Even Steve Jobs knows this; he hasn't done a Photoshop showdown with a Pentium 4 for quite a while, now. I'm currently salivating over the PowerPC 970, which promises to bring Apple out of the "Performance Laughing Stock" category in hardware.

So, the current dilemma is whether or not you want choice of hardware or better choice of software. If you prefer having hardware choices, go ahead and go with a PC running Windows. If you don't like having Microsoft track your every move and treat you like a criminal for buying their OS, then either install Linux or buy a Mac. The Mac user experience, in my opinion, justifies the cost.

Miscellaneous Note:

It's "Mac," not "MAC." It's not a fucking acronym, people. It's shorthand notation. You don't type "FRIDGE" for "refrigerator," do you?

Realy? You manage to disable yours? I though every freken ten doller printer came with Auto-color Correction software

Furthermore if your so spoiled grap the Linux Emulators

I once heard this great aurgment(And its a common one)

Well if I can use all the Mac software on a PC and all the PC software on the Mac why does it matter which I get?
To which my classic response is....
And you paid... How much for that Mac?

Furthermore how much do OS nicties realy matter to you Durandal
And one minor nitpick(Acutal Major)

Acutal If one goes with an AMD Proccesor and DDR Memeroy on a Geforce MB(NForce VR 2 now I belive) one can not only build a computer that will crush a 4000$ Mac in every single Benchmark but do it all for less than $1000
(Excluding of course Video encoding/extration Benchmarks which Apple ususaly allways wins no matter the system setup due to the software)

The built-in Windows color management is not very good. ColorSync is much superior.

Furthermore if your so spoiled grap the Linux Emulators

You can't get FCP on a PC. Avid Xpress DV is available for both PC and Mac, but is limited to DV, unless you feel like spending forever transcoding your media files (Xpress is not limited to DV, but is considerably more expensive).

A lot, to some people. If it works better for them it might be worth the extra cost to get MacOS over Windows.

I'm talking about real color correction, specifically ColorSync. Meaning that I can calibrate my monitor's colors and embed profiles in my Photoshop documents so that the print colors are exactly as they appear onscreen.
Furthermore if your so spoiled grap the Linux Emulators
And run Mac OS X through emulation? Are you insane?

It's a matter of user preference. Some people are willing to pay the premium for the Mac user experience. When I bought my machine, the price was low enough and the hardware fast enough to justify it.
Furthermore how much do OS nicties realy matter to you Durandal
Very much. I'm obsessive compulsive about a lot of things, and Apple caters to me.
And one minor nitpick(Acutal Major)

I've already admitted this. What's your point? What are you nitpicking? However, my 733MHz G4 does everything I need it to without fail. I'd love to have a faster machine, but I can wait for the PowerPC 970.

By the way, an Athlon probably will manage to beat a G4 in video encoding. The reason video editors like Macs is because of guaranteed compatibility and minimal troubleshooting. Furthermore, they have only one place to go for their troubleshooting needs: Apple. They don't need to worry about driver conflicts or anything like that. Currently, in rendering, the performance disparity between PC's and Macs isn't enough to justify buying a PC, because most rendering is done overnight, anyway.

As I said before, different tools have different purposes, and different people like different things.

That would be Most Painful, even if you did somehow offload Aqua (maybe via DirectX interpretation) onto the GPU. Plus, PPC is bi-endian, while x86 is not, giving some more headaches for emulation.

When they release Doom3, it will be, at first, for PC.

I hardly consider the release of a game to be the ultimate argument of whether a platform is superior or not.
