It is sad, but I am noticed myself sterotyping blacks. Please don't get me wrong I am all for equal rights and all that. The sterotype of blacks I think of is some one who is all about "black pride" and "African-American rights". I know this is wrong and I am trying to stop it, but I think it has become a modern sterotype of african-americans. Anyone care to have their input? This is the only minority I seem to do this with also. (Besides women who are 99% of the time spawns of satan, but thats a different story)

I think that this isn't the only race to have this happen....ingeneral, Hispanics are looked upon as stupid, potheads, drug-dealers, gangbangers, or any combination of the above. Indians are looked at as drunks. Blacks are thought of as thieves. Whites are thought of as fundamentalist, supremacist Chrstians. There's a stereotype for every race. Don't get me wrong, sometimes people are stupid enogh to prove thestereotpe, but there are those that don't.

I myslef have accidentally stereotyped people before, and I can't stand it. Usually, though, I will try to wait on getting to know the person before making a judgement, no matter what everyone else says. On the other hand, if I witness a person acting a certain way that fits a stereotype, then that is their downfall.

Care to explain the '99% women=spawns of Satan' thing? that's really throwing me off. Maybe 'products of society' or 'objectified groupies', but not spawn of Satan. I want that cleared up before I give my $.02 on modern positive/negative stereotypes and discrimination.

Bah, it's either excessive hyperbole, or he's hanging around the wrong kind of 'women'.

EDIT: But I must agree...not anywhere near that amount...unless they're PMSing of course, but that's a different story.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I really take offence to that "99% of women are the spawn of satan" line.

I could eaily say that 99% of men are sex crazed assholes, but I won't, because I know that statistic is WAY off.

99.9 % or men (that is men at mating age) are sex crazed at least. the asshole thing is more a thing of opinion.

Stereotypes are bullshit. Even if 99% of women are 'spawns of Satan', it could just mean that 99% have been raised that way.

The other day, I was over at Spanky The Dolphin's dormroom, and he was watching Cartoon Network. Some commercial came on for dolls or something like that. I simply pointed at the screen, and said "how come boys are never encouraged to be nurturing?" He simply glared at me and gave me the usual Silent Treatmet.

The question just popped into my head. Nobody ever answers those questions for me.

correct me if i´m worng, but stereotyping is a pretty natural behavior.

very useful for example if you find out that a bear is dangerous. you wont go near another bear the next time either even though it might be another bear whose personality is completetly different.

sterotyping people is stupid of course but i think the bear thingy is where it comes from.

Then let me try.

Boys are taught to be nurturing. However, they are not taught in the same way, nor to the same extent, that girls are. We are taught to nurture by action. By providing the resources and materials for their families.
