Well, it looks like I know what happened to my poor KA7-100 motherboard a year ago...

SiS mobos, lol, for me it was ASUS super 7 AT's about 6 years ago... *shudder* 8 in one week all because of MFGR defects, including one which launched 3 caps into the wall.

I love Intel motherboards, if only because they're built solidly. Alas, I prefer Athlon processors and Asus & Tyan are expensive.
My current one is a Shuttle AK31A - it's very picky about power, but mine seems to work well.

SIS is actually trying to improve their quality now - I'm still a bit skeptical but they're working on improving their chipsets.

you want cheapass POS: i got a free pc chips m810 mobo last week, so far it's running damn good...even after how i treated it figuring it wouldn't work... (i love mooching off the "dead" parts from teh local stores..)
here's the specs thus far:
athlon t-bird 900
256mb ram
13.9gb HDD
16x generic cd rom
sony floppy
350w p/s
it's gonna end up with either a 16mb tnt1 or an 8mb tnt2 vanta, depends on what ends up working better with this thing's bastardized AGP port.
not bad for a total price of around $5 eh? (i'm NOT joking about the price either, it's all scavenged/RMA'd parts)
