Songs that hold meaning to you.

Are there any particular songs that hod a lot of special meaning to you, becasue you relate to them or otherwise?

For myself, I would have to say almost any of the songs on Dido's No Angel. "Isobel," "My Lover's Gone," "Thankyou," and others all have a lot to do with my life, whether I like to admit it or not, whether it is simply only becasue of subtleties or because of outright similarities.

The acoustic version of "Voices" from the Macross Plus OVA, written by Yoko Kanno and sung by Akino Arai.

It's pretty much the saddest song I've ever heard in my life, and my personal favourite.

Second place would go to main version of "Fly Me to the Moon" from Neon Genesis Evangelion, performed by CLARE. Sinatra's original sucks in comparison to it.

"Wise Up" by Aimmee Mann. It helped me make a very difficult decision during a difficult part of my life. The lyrics summed up precsiely what was going on and made things clear to me.

As pathetic as this may sound, Papa Roach's "She Loves Me Not." Pretty much sums up my social life. Plenty of friends, but everyone I would want to be in a relation ship with isn't interested in me.

Right now Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is another one, since I had a friend die in a car accident last month.

Other than that, plenty of music I like, but not really any that represent major themes of my life or help me get through problems consistently. Each problem might have a song that helps me, but it changes from problem to problem.

It changes from day to day, but I think today it would have to be "Here. In My Head" by Tori Amos.

"So maybe Thomas Jefferson wasn't born in your backyard like you have said, and maybe I'm just the horizon you run to when she has left you."

Although a line from "Mystery" by the Indigo Girls is currently running through my head: "Oh you set up your place in my thoughts, moved in and made my thinking crowded." So that comes in a close second.

L'amour. Le sigh.

U2 - With Or Without You
I had a girlfriend who died and this was our song.

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you

Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

With or without you
With or without you

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
With or without you

Civil War by Guns n' Roses and For Those About to Rock and Hell's Bells, both by AC/DC. These three songs never fail to ignite a fire in my belly. They make me feel like getting up and kicking some ass, and represent my rebellion against the Christian Right and other "moral" majorities.

Space Lion by Yoko Kanno. The song at the end of Cowboy Bebop Episode 13, Jupiter Jazz Part II. The combination of saxophone and American Indian-style singing really mellows me out and brings me down to earth.

"How Soon is Now?" - The Smiths track even people who hate The Smiths enjoy. The lyrics... I'm only ever dimly aware of them when I listen to it, because the music is so awesome. It's simultaniously menacing, sad and uplifting.

A great song, makes me get up and shake my booty.

Mira lo que se avecina
a la vuelta de la esquina
viene Diego rumbeando.
Con la luna en las pupilas
y su traje agua marina
parece de contrabando.
Y donde mas no cabe un alma
alli se mete a darse caña
poseido por el ritmo ragatanga.
Y el dj que lo conoce
toca el himno de las doce
para Diego la cancion mas deseada
Y la baila,y la goza y la canta...

Aserejé, ja deje tejebe tude jebere
sebiunouba majabi an de bugui an de buididipí!!!!

No es cosa de brujeria
que lo encuentre tos los dias
por donde voy caminando.
Diego tiene chuleria
y ese punto de alegria
rastafari afrogitano
Y donde mas no cabe un alma
alli se mete a darse caña
poseido por el ritmo ragatanga.
Y el dj que lo conoce
toca el himno de las doce
para Diego la cancion mas deseada
Y la baila,y la goza y la canta...

Aserejé, ja deje tejebe tude jebere

sure, but you wanted to know which songs hold meaning to us, not that you have to understand the songs.

All together now!

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Repeat X3 with "Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo-doo-doo" in the backing vocals.

:P
