Let me ask you this, Tosho: Did she give you signs that she was interested? Did she know you were interested and play along? Because what you're dealing with here is painful, but really very simple.

If she played along, then she was playing games with you. That's unfortunate, but it happens. If she wasn't playing along, then -- even more unfortunately -- you were playing a game with yourself. And we all know what happens when we play with ourselves, don't we?

I getr a lot of that, or would if I tried asking one out. I was thinking of a "rule though fear" approach. If she says no, then go into some angry rant over how it's not fair, all the other guys would treat her like crap, and if she doesn't go out with you, you'll never talk to anyone she knows again.

You do realize that that behavior would only ostracize you from her circle of friends, right? And you never know -- she might have cute friends. The only way to deal with devious women is to be devious, and I can tell you that from first-hand experience. Hiroko, my current girlfriend, blew me off as cold as ice the first time I tried to be even civil with her -- so I switched to a friend of hers, Caitlin. Caitlin and I dated for awhile, and the whole time (much as I planned) Hiroko got more and more jealous of Caitlin getting treated like a princess while Hiroko got no play. Caitlin and I eventually decided to make our relationship an open-ended one. In a nutshell, I made a cold, machiavellian girl make moves on me by letting her think she was no big loss.

Moral of the story? Women primarily want what they can't have. The less you make her think you're interested, the more interested she'll be.

I don't know how to help, Tosho. I've been through this, too, and I could tell you a million things I've learned from it. But that wouldn't help much, would it? These are things you have to learn for yourself. I will tell you one thing, though -- how well you make it through this depends on how much you agree with what she thinks of you. Unless you can find some pride in who you are, she won.
