I need the opinions of everyone on the board...

I'm thinking of writing a fan-fic, but I need some info first.

The info I need is how would the other countries of the world react to the following scenario:

One day, out of the blue, the rest of the world loses contact with the US. All communication from America ceases, and attempts at contact are met with silence.

Civilian planes and ships bound from America to other countries never arrive, and those sent from other countries to the US vanish without a trace whenever they enter American airspace or coastal waters.

Satellites will not function when they pass over the US and only reactivate when they are no longer over America.

What's the world's reaction? Would they be frightened? Perplexed? Curious? Jubilant? Mobilize their militaries? Send an expeditionary force?

What would Canada do? China? The EU? Australia? New Zealand? Israel? Russia? Other countries?

Feedback would be appreciated.

I like that idea uber-muchly! If you write it, I can't wait to read it! In fact, let me be the first to know when it's up! :D

Thanks. :)

What's your opinion on the world's reaction?

Just write the thing! That's what the fanfic fourms are for! You don't need to get permission!

If the story sucks, it'll get trashed and eventually die. However, if it's decent, you'll get positive feedback. There's no need for this thread, just write!

I don't need permission. I want feedback on the rest of the world's reaction so I can make it as realistic as possible.

I think certain countries (ie Russian and Iraq and China) would immobilize forces, while others (like France and Britain and Australia and Japan) would wonder what happened, and possibly send out somebody....well, maybe not the French.../jk

I imagine Israel and Japan would freak out.

Oh. My bad. Canadians would be understanably curious, especially around the Niagra Falls area, where people on opposite sides can see and wave to each other.

Mexico would have a field day.

I didn't know that (the Niagara Falls part).

You think Canada would send people in to find out what happened, especially since America is right on their border?

I don't think this has been raised yet, but here's a very important question with regard to Canada and Mexico:

If the U.S. is gone (interdimensionally or however you plan to do it) wouldn't Canadian and Mexican citizens living near the borders see something, even if that something is suddenly nothing at all?

Well.....I think the point was that communication is lost....I don't think he said anything about America ceasing to exist...

Why's that? Because they think it would be easier to cross the border?

Mexico wouldn't be a little nervous?

I mean, the world's only superpower has apparently gone bye-bye.

No, the French would endeavour mightily to determine who had stolen the U.S. and immediately upon finding out, would surrender.

Most of the Mideast and their Islamic radicals would most certainly be dancing in joy.

The EU wants to send people out, but it gets tied up and bogged down and nothing materializes. The Brits might just say 'screw this' and send an expedition.

The Japanese would freak out, probably send out some investigators, and beg the rest of the world to help. The Israelis would freak, possibily revert to hardliners, but do nothing.

The Arab world would cheer, and the House of Saud would collapse without the US' oil trade and fall prey to hardliners and fundies. Osama would have a field day.

Also, do Americans abroad, especially military personnel, vanish as well? If not, all those carriers in the Persian Gulf would turn the hell around and start cruising for home, hyped up on DefCon One.

The military abroad would defininetly come steaming home, ready to kick ass and take names.

America is still there, it's just there's no communication from it, and nobody inside the US responds to any messages from other countries.

For all the world knows, everybody in the United States could be dead.

You're not pulling a Seventh Carrier and giving America a bunch of orbital particle beam cannons now are you?

Very quickly. If something went wrong on the US side, Canada would know about it almost instantly.

Americans abroad are still around, including military forces.

I figured they would come steaming for home, for obvious reasons.
