Do you people use PNG capable browsers?
The avatar is the mozilla dragon from the mozilla 1.0 splashscreen

Most 5.x and up browsers support PNG, just not the alpha channel (at least in the cases of IE and Opera; Mozilla and Netscape do). Thus, it's probably safe to use that avatar unless you're using transparency effects.
