Visit by a pair of JWs

Post by Coalition »

Had a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses stop by earlier, wanting me to listen to them. So I did, then I asked the following questions:

1) How many cities were sacked when the Hebrews went to their 'promised land'?

2) Which set of ten commandments do you use?

3) How far do you go when you want to love your neighbor (used a comparison to the Inquisition putting a person in prison until they confess, as their salvation would be for eternity, so 50 years of suffering would be nothing)?

4) If someone is a good person, and never gets a chance to hear about god, will they go to heaven or hell?

Their responses:

1) Didn't know off-hand (but she said she would look it up and come back)

2) They use neither, and instead use the new laws (love god, then love your neighbor)

3) They left that one up to god.

4) Also up to god.

Unfortunately, I wasn't dressed for outdoor weather, so I never got to ask the following (freezing my tail off):

"So if someone does good all their life, and never hears about god, they will go to heaven. But if you tell them about god, they will go to hell. Doesn't that mean that the more people you tell about god, the more people will be going to hell?"

ROTFLMAO! Damn, too bad you didn't get to ask that one.

Why weren't you dressed for outdoor weather? Was your first plan to scare them away by answering the door ?

Anyway, it would be funny if they answered the #1 you asked with "It's up to God".

Little nitpick here, but JWs don't believe in hell. They believe that when you die, you are "unconscious" in the grave until after armageddon when all the righteous followers of Jehovah will be resurected. 144,000 get spirit bodies and go to heaven and the rest get immortal physical bodies and live forever in paradise on Earth.

Especially considering there are no holidays.

Consider this. In thier earthly paradise, people will still have children but no one dies and they don't see a problem with this. I suppose they chalk it up to "with God, nothing is impossible."

I suppose that the earth is actually a mathematical plane, and they'll never run out of space.

Nah, that's for when they come back, and I answer the door in a pair of speedos. <G>

But as for why I was dressed that way, I was kicking back in front of the television, and I heard the doorbrll ring. I had a couple packages coming my way, so I thought it was he UPS people. After I saw who it was, it was too late to go back inside to get properly dressed.

Nah, Witnesses think that when the Earth has been filled to god's satisfaction, that the original mandate of "be fruitful and multiply..." will be fulfilled, and reproduction will stop. No one says that there will be no sex, just that there will be no more reproduction.

Other more sci-fi minded Witnesses might theorize that after the earth is filled, humanity would start to work on the rest of the universe, because after all, what else is it there for? But that's just a theory.

If you see a JW, why not ask them what happens when there are too many people. Of course, with "Nothing's impossible for God", who needs logic?
