My states baseball team, the Twins is #1 in the division and has the combined salary of 1 Yankee player.
I think the problem with MLB is that teams shell out too much money to these guys. Which hurts the little good teams.

Also these guys don't get paid much b/c revenue wouldn't be that great for the players in the smaller teams sucks compare to a great giant like the Yankees...

Then agian these are people who live from Collage sometimes High-School and after five ten years of sports kinda don't know how to do anything
More than a few Basketball players have ended up as Taxi-Drivers after thier million doller Contracts run out...
They might get paid alot but then agian some people make more money scrating thier nose for an hour then these fokes make in a month

They are paid too much. Some of them make more money in one game than some people who actually make a differnce do in years! And they're still going on strike!
Still, celeberites are far more ove and overpaid. But, you don't need intellegence, a college education, or even talent to become one! Being a sports star, you still need to play lots of games, and while the average pro sports career is less than 10 years, some celeberties act for decades, some until they die!

Of course most athletes are paid too much, but I don't hate them for it. How many of you have ever turned down a pay raise? They simply collect what society feels they are worth. That being said...
My fellow North Americans, I plead to you, if you think playing some game every sunday isn't worth a ten million annual salary, don't pay for it! Don't go to the games! Don't buy the merchandise! Don't give into product endorcements! If some rich sports team is trying to extort a new stadium out of your local government, call your representives and say "no fucking way!" The buck stops here! Are you with me?

Hear hear. People who shell out money for sports tickets and paraphernalia and then turn around to whine about players' salaries are hypocrites.

I know what your talking about. Here in Mass, the Red Sox Owners, IIRC, are trying to get the government to pay for part of it. As if we don't have enough problems already [snip]
Sorry, that was about to turn into a rant about state politics.

The money is not comming from there my good wong.
If the Arlington Stadium was filled every game of a season the Rangers could not afford A. Rod's salary. That is why sports teams in America don't have to pay taxes. If a business can show that they are making no profit they don't ahve to pay.
So where do they get the money?
TV! The advertisements produce by far the most money out of the whole system.

It depends on the sport. THe Australian soccer team, for example has gone broke, so they're playing for nothing at the moment.

Just to add my own two cents. It truly disgusts me that the politicians pander to these team owners, helping to pay for stadiums and the like, here in NYC they were actually pushing for a new Yankee stadium in Midtown Manhattan....if any of you have been to Manhattan it is one of the most congested areas in the Northeast if not the USA, how in the hell were they going to deal with the influx of people and cars????
Does anyone truly think that if Steinbrenner weren't given everything he wanted he would really walk away form one of the largest markets in the sports world...fuck no.
BTW I think to be fair I also have to add that I find baseball to be dull and slow. I can't stand the game and roll my eyes when I hear these sports commentators lamenting the disinterest in today's youth for the game vs. sports like basketball....well at least basketball won't put me to sleep.
I pray for a strike...just to see if these whining fans will puss out and still come to the games when they start a new season instaed of letting this bloatred monstrosity die a quiet death.

Same here Stravo. I want another strike to kill interest in Baseball. We also need one or two teams to go bankrupt completely. When a few players get laid off cause there's two less teams to play with, maybe then they'll realize that they can't keep demanding higher and higher salaries.

OK, I amend my previous statement to "people who watch sports on TV and then turn around to whine about players' salaries are hypocrites".
