I doubt QT directed it. I think he was attached to the project to make it more appealing to Western folk. I believe it was directed by Yimou Zhang.

oh no, no, NO!

Tarrantino did not have anything to do with directing the film!

all QT did was finanace the american translation/release of the film.

presents=PRODUCER

see Francis Coppala produced Jeepers Creepers, godfather guy sure as hell didn't direct it.

The translation is old, all Tarantino did was finance the release to the states. It's not about Jet-li vs millions of asians, it's some of the best cinematic story telling I've ever seen, not your every day sword fighting movie.

I thought it was pretty brilliant.

A lot of the fighting is truly beautiful, and even the over the top bits (Slight Spoilers: martial arts fending off a massive rain of arrows, a flashback to a truly mental assult on an emperers palace with a few thousand guards vs. two assasins) are cool.

The plot is a nice change from your average film as well.

I thought most of it was great, but I didn't like the message it ended with.

If you can get past the political context/subtext it's fantastic.
