Should Canada recall its overseas troops?

Just finished reading an article in the Globe and Mail. Basically, it states that a recent Senate committe recommends that Canada withdraw all of its overseas troops to get it back into shape. Thoughts?

I think so, if it will overall improve their military in the next two years. In a long-term war against terrorism, two years is nothing.

Whoa, Canada has troops?!

*Cough* Yes well...I agree with IRG in these points.

If it puts your forces in a better position to help conduct policy, then yes.

I think Australia should do this too. We are stretched FAR too thin and don't have the budget to cover it.

And yet the government wants to continue sending forces to support the US and others in minor conflicts... Damnit, East Timor was enough of a stretch!

Get the military into shape Howard. THEN you can go and play soldiers with Shrub.

I wonder if the Secret Service hold bets to see who will win the race to be under the Shrubs desk first, Howard or Tony Blair? or maybe he uses them on alternating days for a seat? that would explain the asskissing....

First of, Howard is the Prime Minister of Australia, Queen Elizabeth 2 is Aussies Head of State.
Second point, I am from New Zealand, and automaticly have little respect for Aussie PM's.

Well, when your PM is constantly arse-kissing another HoS to the detriment of your own nation you get pissed quickly.

Understandable...It makes me almost want to see Dubya go on an ass-kissing rampage, just to see how bad it looks.

Heh, One thing I will say for NZ'scurrent PM, for all her faults, at least she can think for herself. This has not always been the case for NZ esp pre 1984, {or perhaps pre 1974? *thinks of Muldoon* <shudders>}

Helen Clark is leader of the Labour Party, which now forms the government in coalition with a small outfit called United. She is a strong leader, the likes of which we havent seen since 'piggy' Muldoon {our own little Stalin}. She has followed some of Blairs 'middle way' ideas, esp as it pertains to media relations and PR, which is a worry. Her ministers dont seem to have much initiative, and she compleatly dominates Parliment {mainly cause she is smarter than the rest of the current crop of wankers}

If it really would help Canada make some needed reforms then I think its okay.
