I write this amusing(To you fokes not to me) thread to detail the amazing un-durablity of Modern Vechials in particlar trucks VS my 86(Yep I still drive it) Dodge Aries

Now let see fokes in a thirty MPH strike on the driver side rear door you think said Big Black Impressive truck would do damage yes?

Well when I went to vist my Aunt I would have thought so too this past week and when she indeed managed the feet I was there to witness it(But lacked Direct LOS)

Well, MY Car surived, or acutal the door was slightly pushed out, nothing twenty seconds and a hammer could not fix, so a thirty mph front to my side collison by her truck resulted in a scratch and a slightl bludged panel

Well YESTERDAY while backing out to go of all places the Library to drop off some books I had been reading(Second Foundatation and Brief Histroy of the Universe) I backed into her car at around 18-22 Mph annd

The car door bent inwards around five inchs leaving a great pit as if it had been struck by an KE Shell and just barnley managed to hold on, NTM I busted the window....
Damage to my Car in both Crashes? Around 5$.... For the Hammer, not even paint scratched, meanwhile my hit of her truck did 1,141$ with of damage(They had to replace the entire door plus labor....)

Oh and yes wait for the Irony part to kick in....

This is the same part of my family who was driving back from Cal and had thier TRUCK broken into, with the car window smashed

Yep same truck and for fun we took it back to the same dealer
Who had finished working on it the day before :?

Needless to say I'm not exactly happy about the price-tag but the Irony of it is to sweet to ignore

HA. Something like this happened to my mom. She was at a stoplight when a drunk slammed into her. Her car barely got scratched, but the drunk's was totalled. Sweet irony!

They just don't make cars like they used. If they were durable and dependable then we wouldn't need to buy new ones every 3.5 years.

That sucks. Though it is a great example of irony, and the sucky quality of cars today.

Part of the problem is that they make newer vehicles in panels, so that if you damage one portion of the panel, the entire thing must be repaired or replaced at much cost. Even worse are what I refer to as "eggshell" vehicles .... you know -- those small cars that crumple into a collapsed accordian during a wreck. Altogether different are those abortion vehicles like the Chevy Avalanche or the Aztec that slap gaudy amounts of plastic all over the vehicle that will only later dry-rot in the sun and allow water to collect beneath, causing much damage by rust, and each piece of gaudy plasitic is expensive.

They definitely don't make them like they used to. I recall one time about eight years back when the family used to have an old '86 Toyota van. We were broadsided at about 35 MPH by some idiot driving a newer-model Mercury. After it was done, all we had to do was change the tire and hammer on the rear axle a little. The body wasn't damaged at all, and the paint (as lousy as it was,) didn't even look scratched. The Mercury, on the other hand, had it's front-end ruined.

And in my current car, which is an '85 Toyota station wagon.
(Same type of vehicle as the one in the following image . . . minus the luggage rack, and the foglight assembly.)

I've taken it offroad, into deep snow, and mud, and rocks and up and down mountains. Try to do that with a new compact station wagon like a Ford Focus (or to be perfectly fair) a Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix. And I've backed into cars, and utility poles at speeds of around 5 MPH. No damage at all to the bumpers.

They definitely don't make cars like they used to.

What, no Mk.19? Make sure you get an ex weapons carrier. A couple versions don't have a organic weapons mount, though most do.

Which is more impressive to the Civilian Populas?

Also either way it lets me try out the line...

Fool! For you Face a Fully ARMED and Operational Military Hummer!(DS Reference of course, then fling the .50 up top and load a chain of blanks :D)

The mk19 has no flash hider. I'd think it would be more impressive firing blanks at 60 RPM.

Reminds me of my '86 Mazda 323.

Last weekend I was at a park in the area. Lots of wet leaves ment I had not a great deal of brake authority. Hit a wooden post at about 10mph. Had to replace a little turn signal cover, $2 at the wrecking yard. Add 30 seconds of labor, just to be fair :D

"Good evening."
"How can I help you, Officer?"
"Sir, I take it this TOW system you have mounted atop your vehicle is either deactivated or a non-functional replica?"
"Yes, officer."
"Any way you could verify that, at all?"
"Certainly. If it were live, could I really do this?"

[pushes hand into the launch tube up to his shoulder, waggles it around]

"Well, that's... good."
"Or this?"

[starts pounding on the tube with a nightstick]

"COULD YOU... Could you stop that, please?"
"No problem. Nah, this one's just for show."
"Okay."
"Oh, yeah. The live rounds are in the back.... Ohhhhhhhhh shit."
