Okay Bastard, take a deep breath and try reading the whole article. He was making a joke about promoting tourism in a way that the tourists could relate to easier, because very few visitors from the US ever leave London.

Maybe it's because dumbasses in the U.S. have gotten used to not knowing where countries in the Middle East are in the last 10 years so now they assume any country whose location they don't know must be in the Middle East. Why else would anyone ask them?

I don't know if many Britons go out of their way to use the United Kingdom moniker. Great Britain's a fave for a lot of folk. Or just Britain. So I'm not that surprised that people elsewhere don't use it.
Shit, I only started thinking of Britain as the UK because Combat Fleets of the World made that same switchover, so I have to keep finding the Royal Navy under U instead of G.

If I got such a survey, I'd say that the UK was in the Middle East. It is one's civic duty to lie on surveys.

*Sigh* There was no survey. The guy was using exaggerated humor to show how bad Britain's tourism advertising is. He was saying that while they advertise London, they don't advertise the United Kingdom, so most people don't hear about it. He was essentially making a point that the United Kingdom is heard about as little as a minor Middle Eastern country. Read the whole article, people...sheesh.

Arguments aside, I remember a survey taken several years ago in which a sizable percentage of Americans could not name the large North American country directly to the south.
