Filtering software is a bitch

Whoever installed filtering software on the computers at school was a moron, since it blocks out a lot of legitamite websites. It does'nt even block out the BBS portion of SD.net, even though posting is not allowed, yet it blocks half of a thread for no apparent reason. Apparently lots of admins are morons.

What kind is it? As long as it is not Bess(Server side, IE only admins can touch it though you can get around that) it should be easy to crack

Aye its a hardware filtering... Ok find yourself a good request Cloaker or try using some of the anaimous web surfing sites(if they don't have them blocked)
Also you can use Long IP numbers to get around that(Tradtionaly Long IP numbers are used only for system check or by Admins so some systems don't block them)
Just do a google search on bypassing Igear should be good to go

Didn’t read all of this but IGear is some sort of proxy server.
To check if it's a proxy open IE / Tools / Internet Options / Connections / Lan Settings.
Is Proxy server checkbox checked?
It might also be on the gateway WO using the proxy settings in IE.
If that is the case you need to find a different GW and use that instead for the default one.

BTW if you don't use IE6 just type this in the url:
http://1078494242/
It's the decimal TCPIP Address fot bbs.stardestroyer.net same thing but might fool stupid filtering software.
Also you can use Long IP numbers to get around that(Tradtionaly Long IP numbers are used only for system check or by Admins so some systems don't block them)
Adresses for bbs.stardestroyer.net
Binary
http://01000000.01001000.10000100.00100010
HEX
http://40.48.84.22
Decimal
http://1078494242
TCP/IP
http://64.72.132.34
Doh forgot IP...

My highschool had filtering software installed around my junior year - there was a massive uproar because it was blocking a considerable amount of legitmate research that students were trying to do.
That, and the county forced us to route our T1 (later a high-speed cable line) through both our proxy, their proxy and a filter!

When I was in high school, we had
Apple IIe's. Unworthy youngn's like myself would disable the sound cards and bring in floppy disks with cool games like
Sabotage or
Karatika to play while others were foolishly learning to program in BASIC.

Hehe. I still have one of those.
Just out of curiousity, when you hit CTRL-APPLE-RESET, is the cursor supposed to scroll across the screen without any input? I can type stuff in, but if I pause for more than a second, the cursor will resume its scrolling.

Hmmm, it's been so long.... and remember ... I was one of the
worthless ones playing video games (we slyly turned the monitors
away from the teacher to avoid detection, after disconnecting the sound card), while others were actually programming. The only reason I did well in the class was due to my abiltiy to copy the smart kids.

In my senior year in HS, the admin routed all traffic through their proxy which had the filter on it. All I did to get around that was use the proxy for my ISP. Some students used AOL accounts to do the same. He got wind of that and tried to install software to forbid anyone to make any changes. We got around that and deleted the software the second we noticed it.
The teacher didn't give a shit. She only cared if we were doing anything naughty. (The trick was to hit CTRL ALT DEL right when the software started to load. This is the only time it was visible to the End Task prompt. Then we were free to delete it at our leisure.)

I have one on my computer at home, and it's the most screwed up thing. And, for some reason, it's not on now. Either the stuff I did to disable it worked, or it's even more messed up than I thought. I don't know why I have one on my computer. It blocks out many legitimate sites, and I don't do any bad things online anyway, and even if I did, what's so bad about them?

If you can type the URL a certain way you can circumvent server filters. my school uses a pretty efficient content filter, which blocks me form going to such places as
www.ironmouse.dhs.org, but if I choose to go to
www.ironmouse.dhs.org/dragon I'm allowed access.
