Wait a minute, I'm pretty sure I've seen this routine. Is this the one where he talks about how blacks and whites are different?

I liked Rock's bit about what would happen if an employee ran the Gap like Bush ran the country. The "They made six Police Academys, but they didn't want to make Passion of the Christ!" also made me laugh for some reason. Still, I liked Steve Martin better when he did the show two years ago.

As for the awards, I'm really not paying much attention, but I wanted Portman to win the Best Supporting Actress award, but just to see more of that dress she was wearing.

Cate Blanchett won Best Supporting Actress. Good for her. :D

HAH! You fools... having 'best animated' is teh 3vil way of making sure an animated feature will never win best picture. HAAAA!

But it was for "Best Documentary Short". That's barely above "Best Barely Visible Boom Mic".

On a serious note, how many times has Beyonce sung tonight? I'm suprised they didn't bring her out to stand around while Yo-Yo Ma did that cello music for the tribute to the recently deceased in Hollywood.

Do rappers like Ma because you can sound classy yelling "Yo, awesome!" ?

Why is Chris Rock acting like such a pussy? When he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, he was punishing and brutal, openly insulting many of the nominees in his opening act.

"Back Street Boys ... ooooh, scary. Who's on the front-street of that neighborhood? Big Bird?"

The guy's too good a comic to just have as the "funny colored fella" running around on-stage.

They almost certainly have him on a short leash and there's probably a good 60 second time delay on the broadcast so they can censor him good.

That's what I don't understand. Why would they ask someone who's known to be brutal and offensive to host a show where he has to be nice? It does not make sense, unless they just want to be "hip" and say that they hired Chris Rock, and he's a black guy, and he's cool, and that makes the Oscars cool or some shit like that.

I'd say it's to reach out to the teen markets. IIRC they don't watch the Academy Awards that much. If at all.

Hell, they replaced Minnie Driver with Beyonce to sing one of the songs so they could get bigger draw.
