What Winter-time Illnesses Are In Your Area?

Post by Damaramu »

Alright all you hypochondriacs out there...what type of Winter associated illnesses are floating around in your town?

Here in the Houston area, there's some kind of sore throat bug making it's way to people. Starts off with a scratchy throat and BOOM! sore throat for a week or two! :?

I catch colds. But then again, you'd catch colds if you lived in 16 degree weather all day long.

I live in centre, litoral, Portugal. We can go to the beach pratically all year. It doesn't snow. The temperatures are never low, and the winter sun still burns. Apart for the traditional sneezing/eventual flue, nothing really bothers us.

Damn. If I lived in Finland, I'd probally migrate during winter.

Whee! No sunlight! Yay! Seriously, I tend to be called "Vampire" by some of my friends because I literally hiss at the sun sometimes. The only thing it's good for, IMO, is tanning.

We're in the 40s-50s right now, and while all my friends are bundled up in three layers of clothes (Southerners :roll: ), I'm walking outside in jeans and a t-shirt. Some colds going around, but the air's nice and crisp, like a late September morning in New England.

Nonono....you misunderstand.....social interaction gets me out of depression, not sunlight. Why does everyone think that darkness causes depression all the time? I am also a night person....VERY active at night time. Which means that darkness = better. For me, I am happier at nighttime than I am during the daytime, especially when I am hanging out with somebody.

sun makes people happy. think of lying on grass or the beach with the sun shining. that´s great. sunlight rules!

Grass = achoo!

Beach = half naked guys. Yummy.

But still, it really isn't the sun, it's the interaction with people. I am just as depressed in sunlight as I am in darkness if I am depressed.

Actually sun does increase peoples mood. Its a built in instinct, just like their is a form of depression SAD (Sessonal Affected Depression or something like that) where people just get depressed if they're not showered with natural light (hence why there are full spectrum bulbs produced)

It certainly is dark here in in the winter, but in the summer it's the opposite: the sun never goes down... Don't even mention the temperatures! In the summer it's always too warm (easily above 30 degrees celcius) and too cold in the winter (sometimes even below -20).
