I love to drive; I live for road trips. The driving itself is fun, but it's the music that makes it fabulous. What's your favourite? Song/CD/Group/Singer/Genre, whichever best fits. Even if you don't do road trips, what music is your fave to listen to while driving in the car?

I like either jazz or classical music. Sometimes I'll listen to 70's era rock.

Some hard rocks, 70s Rock, sometimes Funk suprisingly, oh Star Wars & Classical. And as Bean said I like actual country as in: anything before 1980. Not Hick, Redneck Rock, or Redneck Rap which it has become.

The whole reason I asked in the first place was because I was driving out to a friend's place yesterday and rediscovered one of my favourite driving cds! (Don't you love it when you rediscover cds you used to love but then sort of forgot about? Ahhh, love that!)
Sorry, I digress. My picks:
"Grand Slam" by Spiderbait (cd I rediscovered yesterday--TOTALLY awesome Aussie band)
"Imaginate" by Taxiride (another kickass Aussie band)
"Songs In the Attic" by Billy Joel
"Revolver" by the Beatles
"Sgt. Pepper" by the Beatles
"Try Anything Once" by the Alan Parsons
"Room for Squares" by John Mayer
Soundtracks to 'The Matrix' and 'Office Space'
Assorted Metallica, Tori (the loud ones, not the weepy ones), and Indigo Girls (when I'm in the mood to serenade the other people on the highway)
That's pretty much it, I think.

My friend gave me some really cool Greek music. Although I'm Greek, my musical knowledge sucks. Hey, it sounds good though.

Has any body ever wound the windows down and blasted gangsta rap or disco music at full volume? I see those quite a lot...

fuck tha (c)rap shit, i roll down the windows and blast hardcore techno or goth metal, really gets some odd looks as i'm just sitting there as if nothing's out of the ordinary (not "jamming" to the music), and i appear perfectly calm (which i am when listening to fast music as it sync's with the speed of my mind usually.) btw, fast music helps me think clearer, has to do purely with the speed of my mind, slow music drives me nuts.

THE single best album I can think of for that is Tool's Aenima, followed closely by Switchblade Symphony's Serpentine Gallery and Orgy's Candyass.

Seeing as I don't have a CD player in my car, I usually listen to one of the rock stations in my area. I do have a favored selection of road songs...
Bob Seger - Turn the Page - Dark, smooth and moody.
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive - For me, the quintessential outlaw song.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird - YOU try not rocking out after the lyrics are through and the guitar begins fucking jamming the fuck out.
The Offspring - Totalimmortal - Done well over the speed limit with this one...
AND of course...the one song that is blasted, sung to and rocked out on regardless of time or who's in the car...
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Usually it's my cd's that I burn unless I have a new one. I listen to the radio a bit too. It's mostly rock/alternative for the most part. I will have to say, Cardigans My Favourite Game gets a lot of play time if I feel like driving fast, and furious. boo yah.

Personally I'd go with the Metallica version but neh.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird - YOU try not rocking out after the lyrics are through and the guitar begins fucking jamming the fuck out.
THE greatest driving song ever...just stretch that FREEEEEEEEEE BIIIIIIRD YEEEEAAAHHHH! Awesome awesome song and the guitar duel just makes you wanna drive faster (or perhaps make a few radical u-bies or lead a convoy from the rear car)
