...I've ever seen. I found this over at SpaceBattles and well, it's just not right.

Should people found guilty of murder be allowed to pay a fine instead of jailtime?

It would have to be a hefty fine (I.E. +$10 million) and there would need to be some sort of list of greivences approved.

If a politician pissed off to many of his constituents he could be offed when a sufficiently large amount is gathered.

If payed in advance should they be allowed to kill the person with no interference?

How about it?

Obviously, every post in the thread the guy who came up with the idea made was totally against it.

Yes. If they knew they could pay their way out, there would me murderers poping up everywhere. Killing them gives them a great warning and, unfortunetly, people still murder. But not as much as there would be if you could pay your way out. I think the person who came up with that idea is a murderer standing up for his kind.

If you really want to figure the pure materialistic value of life...how much money is required to raise him/her to that age...and if the cloning is possible...how much for that.

Much more than 10 million, and still not acceptable unless I get THAT person back...not something that looks and talks like him/her, but really that person.

Hey, why not make murderers do 1,200,000 hours of ocmmunity service too? Murder shouldn't be punsihable by fines, it should be punishable either by jail time, or in instances of mass murders, death.

Ideally I'd like to see something like a B5 mindwipe become standard rather than the stupid hodgepodge system we've got now. There's too many ways for the guilty to get off lightly.

Actually in my economics book it gave a number of how much a human life was worth in material terms. It is less than 10 million dollars.

Up until the last sentence, I agree completely. It's immoral to have someone pay their way out of a murder, and to propose paying in advance, it's like paying the government to do a hit-job.
