Seniority question....

Post by irishmick79 »

Ok, I read over the announcement boards, and didn't find anything that incorporated date of activation into User Rank.

So, here's the question. Would a poster who joined say, six months ago and only posted 50 times hold seniority over a poster who joined three months ago and has posted 80 times? What factors would you take into consideration when determining the proper seniority ranking?

Just curious.

Seniority is irrelevant. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. :P
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

Seniorty is defined roughly

"Whatever the hell I feel like, at whatever the hell time I feel it"
To quote Mike
Seniority however is normal consireded by the number of THOUGHTFUL intresting posts you have made VS Bullshitting and or Spam

So while some people might have over 6800, insightful thoughtful posts much like this one

Others while having over thousand posts may be mostly comprised of Spam and thus not worthy of respect

Also to go off on a tanget here fokes I wish everyone to look at said image here.. Shivona's acutal

Well, I have seniority in the way that I can call everyone who posted in this thread a n00b and poke them.

*POKE*, you n00bs! :D

Have a very nice day.

By my own twisted join date/post count seniority system only Wong outranks me.. Of those in the top ten for posts, no one with more then me save Wong joined before me.

I'm sure being a respected member is part of seniority. There are many posters here that have been here for a shorter time than me, and in some instances, have fewer posts, but are far more respected than I could ever be.

Registry date overrides post count. Some people have 5000 posts and yet contribute nothing.

I never thought post count meant anything other than physical involvement on a massive scale. I've been around a decent while on this board, but I only post when I actually have something I want to say, add, or comment on. Which isn't as frequent as for other members who seemingly live and breathe poised over the 'reply' button. ;)
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I have a question. Of what use is the concept of seniority on this message board at all? The only arbiter is whether someone's making a coherent/rational/logical/non-fucktard post when they make it.

I think it is quality not quanity. Take publius for example. He almost never posts, but I have more respect for him then I do for 95% of the other members.

Seniority doesn't confer anything except for titles, which are similarly meaningless, but can be either amusing, fun, or insulting. Patrick Degan, for example, does not ever post spam IIRC, and has a much lower post-count than many people, but usually puts genuine thought into his posts and thus probably merits somewhat more respect than, say, Mike_6002 regardless of post-count.

Another feudal system

admin
supermod
mod
respected and admired people (especially those that have very few post counts but always make excellent points)
others
those that do literally nothing

Those that earn respect by the other members has seniority (hence the mods since most everyone knows and [I'm assuming] has some respect for them and those that people hold in high regard)

Post count is very trivial since there are uberposters who contribute little more than pocket lint intellect, but may seem to have seniority because they bloat up their post counts and seem to be everywhere. Just like their are the far and few posters that post truly awesome nuggets of wisdom but have low post counts because divine wisedom rarely strikes.

But basically put, senority is deteremined by the respectability and the general belief of the general populace. Just throwing my two cents into this topic.

Seniority is a pretty vague term around here. Postcount, how long you've been here, what you say, modship, and other factors all contribute.
