Tiffin, Ohio- A man this week was convicted for the attepmted rape of a child that did not exist. Authorities state that the man had a large cache of child porn. One of the agents working on the case, went undercover and told the man about a girl who lived nearby( who did not exist). They talked for a bit, and then suddenly the man announced suddenly that he would rape the non-existent girl. He bought several 'toys' and went out to the location where the undercover agent had told him the girl was. Details are skectchy, but it appears the police were there wating for him to take the bait. He walked right into their trap and was arrested in moments. The police said that the ruse was used to try to prove that he was connected to child porn and was a threat to the commuity.
Well, certainly quite weird. I don't get the whole thing, but, hey, it happened. What do you guys think?

Weird, and will be probably be thrown out by a judge for reasonable cause. Or lack of a warrant, or maybe another clause. I could be wrong. Not too familiar on US Criminal Laws.

It'll probably thrown out because 1) He didn't rape anyone, and 2) The person he attempted to rape didn't exist.

It seems a bit like Minority Report to me. How can we be absolutely sure he was actually going to do it? His nerves could have failed, for example.

The thing is, they knew had had child porn, but had no evidence. Secondly, they had no warrant. Thirdly, it should be thrown out for just that reason, not to mention that they had no justiofication in the matter.
Sick, yes, justifiable, no. *sigh*

It's going to get thrown out. I hate to see the bastard walk, but he will. It's a pretty clear case of entrapment if you ask me; unless he gets a really dumb lawyer that'll be enough. The sick fuck is going to walk. It's times like this I long for mob vengeance.

Ya. Tiffin is weird. Did you hear about that college kid that got killed out here by doing a 'Jackass stunt?'
Acutally, he went to class with one of my friends. So sad. And stupid.

Acutally, the article was from a couple of weeks ago.
He was sentenced yesterday to 6 years on various charges.

Why did the cops have to set him up? Why couldn't they just search his house? Or, why didn't the man do some boneheaded act and put the child pornography in a business slide show, like that other guy?

I'm sure the attempted rape wasn't one of them. Still it's good to see a sicko like that behind bars. I hope he enjoys being anally raped without lube.

Depending on how the police set it up, it seems to have violated our "entrapment" laws, which means it will get thrown out, and any evidence for other crimes they gained as a result of that arrest will be thrown out as well. IE: He'll walk completely.

Yeah, entrapment, I hear about it all he time strange I would forge it. Anyways, atleast he got kiddy porn charges.

Wonderful. Unfortunately, kiddie porn arrests are a very Darwinian process: the dumb pervs get caught, the smart ones don't. Fun, huh?
There's a book, I forget who by, called "Beyond Tolerance", by a professor at some college in Pennsylvania, that's about the closest thing there is to a detailed sociological study of kiddie porn on the internet. One of his conclusions is that since a lot of these people have been circulating child pornography electronically since before Al Gore ever heard of the internet, they know too many ways to avoid getting caught to get caught. Lovely, huh?

Sounds great. If someone annouces they're going to commit a crime then they should be arrested for that crime. To prove guilt, the DA, Crown, whatever, must prove that the intent was true and that he had the capability of commit a crime at the time. And this man did, he just didn't have a victim.

What's so sad about that? People dying doing dumb things clearly falls under the, 'It's funny cause it's not happening to me' category of humour.

Good point. Pre-empting a crime is always good.
