Bomb attached to speed camera

29 November 2002
Police have issued a nationwide alert after discovering a deadly explosive device attached to a speed camera.
They fear an officer could be killed or seriously injured if other devices have been placed in cameras across Britain.
Special Branch believe the device, hidden in a tyre, could have been timed to explode when a police officer opened the speed camera to change the film.
The booby trap was found inside a tyre placed on top of a camera on a busy stretch of the A5 near Cannock, Staffordshire. It was spotted by a council highway maintenance team who noticed wiring hanging out of the car tyre, which had been doused in flammable liquid. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said today: "It is an alarming new development and we must catch the person or persons responsible for this."
In the summer 30 Gatso cameras on the North Circular were attacked in a systematic campaign launched by a group of militant drivers.

Sounds like the Brits are getting frisky.....or maybe it's the IRA!!!
