Who wins the National Championship?

Post by jegs2 »

Bama survived a wide-open Hawaii yesterday in Honalulu by a score of 21 to 16. Ball control was to be a decisive factor in a Tide win, and control the ball Bama did. As they are on probation, that game ends Bama's season; they will not go to a bowl game. Until next college football season...

ROLL TIDE!

I'm convinced that my Dawgs could whip up on Ohio State if given the opportunity, but it does indeed look like Miami has finally pulled it together (was Miami ever not together?) and will beat Va. Tech for the Fiesta Bowl this Saturday. I'm gonna hope and pray that Va. Tech pulls off the upset, shooting us into the driver's seat for the national championship, assuming we beat Arkansas in the SEC title game.

In any case, Miami gives Ohio State the most brutal assraping to ever grace a national championship game, my prediction.

My money still goes on Miami, they've put together the most impressive season amongst the top contenders even if they did have a scare with Florida State, hwoever my heart isn't in thisseason after my Terps got freakin snubbed by the Gator Bowl which I'm still ticked about.

Miami seems to be the best of the teams.

Really, it does seem that a lot of the fire in college football is missing this year, though that may be because I live in Florida, where half the state is pining Spurrier's leaving, and the other half is mocking the Redskins instead of the Gators now.

Probably, because in Georgia and Alabama the fire is alive and stronger than ever.

Iowa doesn't typically play well in big bowl games. Still, even with all the recent time off I'm pretty certain they could take Ohio State. The last few weeks of their season I think they had a very good shot against just about any team. Now, we'll see.

They do have a different coach than they had in their last major bowls so maybe that'll make a difference. It's hard to gauge since their non-conference schedule was so weak (would have been better if Iowa State hadn't self-destructed in the second half of the season) but they also played a lot better the second half of the season. The defense finally got it together and stopped letting teams back into the game (Iowa State, Penn State...).

Ohio State vs. Miami should be interesting. Those two teams have been pretty consistent this season.

I think Miami vs. USC would probably be more exciting just because of how explosive USC's offense has been lately. Either that or it would prove that the Pac-10 is crap (razenfrazin' Arizona :x ) which is dobtful given the drubbing USC gave Notre Dame :) .

Right now I'm still waiting for some more upsets in the regular season. Not that it matters if Miami doesn't lose but Iowa needs a lot of help (Georgia would have to lose too) to get into the Fiesta Bowl. Personally I'd like to see Iowa finally win a Rose Bowl again (hasn't happen since the 50's).

OSU hasn't been impressive at all this year really, but being undefeated it definitely deserves its Fiesta Bowl berth, even if it's not the 2nd best team in the country at the moment. Even though Miami is for sure one of the two best teams in the country, should it lose to Va. Tech it will lose its national championship hopes thanks to the BCS era.

I agree about OSU. That's why I think Iowa could take them and Iowa typically has more trouble with OSU than any other Big 10 team. Pretty much all the other teams on the list worry me if Iowa had to play them (past history in bowls an all).

If Iowa had included OSU on its schedule OSU sure as hell wouldn't be where it is now.

I think so too, but that's the way the Big Ten's scheduling has been even before they added Penn State.

Personally, I think that if the Fiesta Bowl ends up Iowa vs. OSU a lot of people will be extremely pissed at the BCS and we'll be that much closer to getting a playoff system.
