Explain...

Post by The Dark »

In the spirit of the "Rate the Person Above You" thread, here's one for people to explain their name, avatar, and signature.

Me first :wink::

The Dark is a name I've used for a while for different things. It comes from a Trans-Siberian Orchestra song entitled The Dark (lyrics at: http://www.trans-siberian.com/bln-lyrics.shtml#dark).

My avatar is the Black Mage from Final Fantasy Tactics. I sorta jumped on Nitram and Iggy's BM bandwagon after seeing 8-bit Theater, but decided to use my favorite FF game rather than the original. Right now he's got a Santa hat for the season, but he'll be back to his yellow hat after I get back from Winter Holidays.

Signature: The first part is a joke on my part, since we moderate Christians aren't (usually) as pushy as the fundies (and Christians shouldn't be pushy...religion is a choice).
The GREL and SLEDGE are genetic supersoldiers from Heavy Gear, a Dream Pod 9 RPG.
The Acolyte of Weber is due to my love of David Weber's science-fiction novels.
"Lasciate ogni speranza, Voi che entrate" is the original Italian from the Inferno for "Abandon every hope, all ye who enter."
Cthulhu...well, against GW Bush, he might be the lesser evil, but that's still one of my favorite jokes (and my best friend has the bumper sticker...grr...)
The Etienne duMonde is for Kelly's V:tM thread.
And finally, you are all a bunch of stoats. It's an old in-joke with some friends that I just added on for no reason.
Stanley Hauerwas wrote:[W]hy is it that no one is angry at the inequality of income in this country? I mean, the inequality of income is unbelievable. Unbelievable. Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.

Malecoda is misspelled. It's really Malacoda, but I didn't have my copy of Dante's Inferno with me at Best Buy when I made the switch. It's pbly taken anyway ("Malabranche", my first choice, was, so I'dn't be surprised), so I'm happy. Malacoda means "evil tail" and was the name of the leader of the Malebranche ("evil claws"), the band of demons who torture people in Hell. I'm too busy and my connection is too slow for me to find an avatar right away. If anyone wants to volunteer a source, I'd be happy to accept a suitable image. For my sig, it's found without attribute in Michener's The Drifters. Great book.

Then I'll be second.

Why Evil Sadistic Bastard? Beats me, but I first used it when playing UT and CS, and I would bind macros saying stuff like "You have just been sodomized by the Evil Sadistic Bastard, have a nice day!" And besides, I am, aren't I?

Avatar: That's a snippet of a picture showing Asuka in a Santa costume. Well, I like Asuka and I needed something Christmassy. My previous avatar was a pic of Shuma Gorath, which kind of fit because of my title (Hentai Tentacle Demon).

Signature: Almost everything here is made up, except for the first line, whih is a modification of the classic WH40K Chaos Marine World Eater battle cry "Blood for the Blood God and Skulls for Khorme!"

"Feel the ownage!" is a tribute to UT 2003, the most rox0r shooter in a long time.

I made up the comment about the naked pictures thread myself.

And the rest is just fluff and awards, etc.
Believe in the sign of Hentai.

I'll go next.

The name Temjin comes from a fighting game I was addicted to for a few months. When I came to this board, I decided to use the name of my favorite fighter from that game. So Temjin was born.

The avatar is an actual screenshot from that game. It's a picture of the actual Temjin. If you look squint hard enough you can actually make out the word "perfect".

My signature comes from the book Sword Point. In the beginning of each chapter the author provided a quote from someone. I thought this particullar one was appropriate for this board.

We were trying to think of a screen name for this goofy redhead guy in my health class and the best we came up was AnarchistBunny and Masturabtory Turtle, since I came up with Anarchist Bunny I prohibited him from using it and I have been using it for two years now.

Av, holiday BM, so I used a Geomancer sprite... AMNESIA DUST

My name: A light Jedi sounding-name I adopted for online Jedi Outcast play.

My avatar: University of Georgia mascot Uga VI, and the greatest animal to ever live. With a christmas hat.

My signature: First line is from "The Battle Hymn of the New Republic," also played as "Battle Hymn of the Bulldog Nation" down here for football games.

Second line: 70X Takeoff is a play by the Dawgs during the last minute and a half of the Auburn game that won the SEC East Title. David Greene is the QB who threw the ball, Michael Johnson received.

Third line: Self-explanatory, I love engrish.

'Cyril' is not my name. It's a psuedonom I've been using for a long time and I don't feel like changing it. However, I go by HemlockGrey on other forums and might register a HemlockGrey account soon.

My sig is a line from the Black Company books. My avatar is the Standard of both Soulcatcher and the Black Company.

Andrew is my first name, J is my middle initial.

I have no avatar, because I suck.

Sig: First line used to be "Slightly Mad", a tribute to the Queen song I'm Going Slightly Mad. However, I was acting particlarly wacky during a conversation with Kelly, and she jokingly suggested that "Mostly mad" would be more accurate.

Second line: I'm giving a reward to the first person to guess what this means, so I can't explain it.

Third line: Moongoose McQueen, aka Chris Irvine, aka Y2J Chris Jericho, is the lead singer for a band named Fozzy. I ripped the quote from Fozzy's official website.

Fourth line: Just some stuff Lord Wong said that looked particularly amusing. I figure kissing some ass by having the Wong God's words in my sig can't hurt.
Don't hate; appreciate!

Sea Skimmer, a name that I have carried across countless forums, chat rooms and Usenet. Its origins however stem from the forums of Warships1.com, the first place I ever posted. I chose it for its reference to low flying anti ship missiles, naval warfare related names where common on those boards and still are.

My avatar is but the most recent of many, a Dark Templar Corsair pilot. I chose it because I like Starcraft, I like the Protoss, I wanted an avatar that was a person not just a cool scene, and of all Protoss the Dark Templar are the coolest. The Corsair pilot was the best of the available DT images.

First line of my sig explains the avatar and my highest allegiance. The second announces my self proclaimed rank and mod status of the Hvy Armor Brigade user group. AIIF means what it means. My quote is just something I stumbled on which I happen to agree with and found amusing.

My name, obviously, comes from IG-88, the most badass assassin droid EVER. In one story, there were four IG-88s, labeled A-D, so I grabbed E.

My avatar is a pic of IG-88 on the Executor in TESB. Drewcifer was good enough to add a hat for Chistmas.

My sig:

The pic and 'Acguy' line are from a fan-based campaign to get Acguy, a popular mobile suit from Gundam, to have its own toy.

The rest shows my usergroups BOTM and AIIF, and how I stand in them.

Name: I don't remember quite well how I came up with my name; it was quite a while ago. I think it was original, although it does look like a blend between Genova from FFVII and Shivan from Freespace.

Avatar: Started visiting a webcomic site called Tsunami Channel a month or two ago. Came to like it, looked at the gallery section, and picked this one out. Edited it, and came up with:

Image

For now, ESB was kind enough to add a santa hat, although the pic quality didn't turn out so well.

Sig: The bottom one is from a concession pic. As for the top one, I'm not sure who said it first, but it came from Spacebattles.

My SN is just one I trhought up spur of the moment when I joined here. Originally the Jedi wasn't gonna be in it, but I threw it in.

My Avatar is Count Dooku, when he is about to fight Yoda. My first one was Obi Wan Fighting Dooku and my second was Dooku using Force Lightining.

My Sigs arefunny ones I've heard from movies and TV. One from the Simpsons, one from Office Space, and Two from Full Metal Jacket. Plus the Alert Conditon: Red. I thought that was a cool Red Alert Flash, I really like the one form Star Trek 6.

Basically, it's UT with Quake III style graphics. The taunts are great, the weapons are fun, you need a LOT of skill (weapons do less damage than in the original).

Malcolm, Lauren and Brock are the final bosses, and Malcolm is a badass mother.

Waay back when I first joined, I was in the middle of sketching out fictional backstories for a novel I am working on. One of the big antagonists in the story is a character by the name of Arkall Terwynn. He is one of a species of vaguely humanoid aliens called the Neopolitans. These guys are thousands of years older and more advanced than almost all the other species in the Galaxy, including humans. He is also among the most powerful of their number, hence the title "Grand Master Terwynn"

The sig is self-explanatory. The exact reason I chose the name though . . . even I'm not sure about that one myself.

My name means Cat Demon. It started as Oni, which was always taken, then I watched Sister Princess (a kinda sweet anime with 12 sisters in it), and name changed to Oni_Sama (big brother). then somehow the Neko replaced the sama. Hence Neko_Oni.

My current avatar (I think i've settled for now) is Lain from the anime Serial Experiments Lain. Very cool go watch it. I've had Spike, Piro, Arucard and Kenshin at various points.

The quote is a link to MegaTokyo an awesome online web comic whose writer needs support more now than ever. The rest is from Black Mage, the king of harsh comments.

My name Damaramu is taken from the hillarious knight/bounty hunter of the same name from the Dragon Half anime. I use Damaramu on at least 3 other boards.

My avatar is a Super Deformed rendering of Roy Focker's VF-1S Strike Valkyrie designated Skull One from the movie Macross: Do You Remember Love?

In the quotes section is a picture of Genjuro Kibagami from the Samurai Spirits/Shodown series from SNK, my favorite character from that series. The quote is from the War of The Worlds tv series from the early 90's.
