Well, a couple of things, derelicts do freak me out, beinga SCUBA diver and having done a few wreck dives I can honestly say that they freak me the hell out, air consumption roughly doubles during the first five minutes of a "penetration" dive...

Also, I do believe that it is a grand idea to run about now.

Not yet, I want to go to the Solomons and dive on a few of the wrecks from Guadacanal.

But I've dived a few other wrecks and they all are amazingly freaky. One in Noumea was a scuttled tuna boat... Dropping down onto it as it loomed up at the bottom was kind of weird, what was even worse was that at about 20m one of the Japanese tourons (who probably had minimal dive experience) panicked and power-inflated their BC sending them rocketing to the surface. At this point the dive-masters got the "oh shit" looks on their faces and went up after her, bringing her back down to depth. No damage, but she was pretty messed up.

Not much to see at Guadalcanal that you can dive on, a couple destroyers and freighters and maybe Atlanta is about it. Almost everything sank in water thousands of feet deep.

There are restriction on diving on warships. It's illegal to dive on those of the RN, not sure about those of the USN or Japan though.

It's illegal for a reason, as they are wargraves, and they do not want anyone to deface the graves, and steal anything from the wreck.

Most of the U-boats of WWII are wargraves. And you are allowed to dive them, though most rest at a depth normal divers won't reach.
There's a Type VIIC in Norwegian waters that you can dive in the summer and it is a war grave (penetration is also possible).

There are a few about... And some of them you are allowed to dive on, one of my friends who lived in the solomons for ages used to dive on some of the smaller wrecks, plus there is are a few american bomber wrecks that are safe for penetration diving.
