Does any dialog appear in that window? Do you have any strange or unusual services you've installed? Or old DOS drivers you're loading when you start your machine?Shinova wrote:I'm not sure what I did wrong, but everytime I start windows (2000), this pops up automatically:

Check your startup folder as well.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Im assuming you have a C: drive. Anyway, look in the Startup folder for anything like CMD.exe for a Shortcut to CMD.exe
You also, will wanna check the start up folders for the profiles beloning to
administrator and your user account. If thats confusing just ask, someone will help.
--------------------------------------------------
Another way to look is to go to Start--->Run
Type MSINFO32
Highlight Software Environment
Click on Startup Programs
see if you find anything there
--------------------------------------------------
It could be buried in some odd registry entry, but I recommend you DO NOT touch your registry if you are not really comfortable with that.

Ok, here's how the problem first started:
I downloaded something that I thought was a crack program. I ran it, and suddenly it started deleting stuff like crazy in my windows/system folder. I hit the power switch about a second into the process, restarted windows (there was no apparent visible damage), and there it was...the cmd window. Every single time. For about 10 seconds, then it would disappear on its own.
So then I reinstalled windows. Used upgrade option. The cmd window still appears.
And know that I have NOTHING in my startup folder.
I also searched for everything labeled "cmd.exe" in the registry and deleted them all. No effect.
I checked this itself: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Nothing.
Then I looked at this:
I'll try that msconfig thing when I have the time. However, besides that, this cmd.exe thing seems to have no source, yet just keeps popping up every single time.
It might seem like a little thing but when you see that thing appearing every goddamn time...

Unfortunately, there is no tools>sys...etc menu.This might work: start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information>tools>system configuration utility>startup
Look for a cmd.exe in there, uncheck it and restart.
Nope. The window stays there for about 10 seconds as shown in pic above, then disappears.Does any dialog appear in that window? Do you have any strange or unusual services you've installed? Or old DOS drivers you're loading when you start your machine?

Shinova, it sounds like some sort of DOS batch program that loads at boot. Look at all the other programs as well, especially ones that end in .bat.

Ok, that was brilliant... running a crack without scanning it first...Shinova wrote:Ok, here's how the problem first started:

My advice is to wipe your hard drive. That's the only way to be sure that you will destroy everything.

to me it sounds like a reload time. but if this is of any help, i had to take a copy of MSCONFIG from another windows version as win2k doesn't have it.
here's a dl'able copy that works well with 2k:

and yes, it's clean, i am hosting it.
