Desert Island Discs

The klaxons are ringing, it's time to abandon ship. Once your escape pod lands, you'll be stranded on a desert island the rest of your days. Besides a few essentials (rations etc.), you only have time to grab your 10 favorite albums before you leave. What 10 albums do you grab?

The only rules are: no box sets, and a double disc album counts as two choices.

I'll post mine tomorrow...

Chef Aid: The South Park Album
And 3 CDs full of my burned MP3 collection (okay, so I have no originality, so sue me...)

Back in Black ROCKS. All ten tracks on that album are just solid. Easily in the Irishmick's top three favorite albums of all time list.

BTW why did you discard the Michael Corleone avatar?

It was a crappy pic, I couldn't really find a better one to work with, and the Irish harp seems to fit my user name a little better. You like it?

Not exactly. I prefe avatars of beings rather than objects. But hey, it's your call.

And the last 3 albums:
Linkin Park's Reanimation
Elton John's Songs from the West Coast
Jars of CLay's If I left the Zoo

Damn, only 10 CDs?

Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Chantal Kreviazuk - Colour Moving and Still
Sarah Slean - Nightbugs
Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Session
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet
Jimi Hendrix - Blues
Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Now if I could burn my own CD's I can squeeze in another couple albums worth of songs, so these 2 also get tossed into my grab bag.

Led Zeppelin I
Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien

All the CD's are full of goodness with no "filler" songs so I can get maximum listening joy out of them, and the selection covers pretty much every mood I might expect to be in.

Yeah, 10 isn't enough, but it can be a fun exercise to pick 'em out. Granted, with everyone burning their own discs full of MP3's these days, it's not the same idea as it used to be, but still kind of fun.

Anyhow, here's mine:

Big Country - best of
The Clash - London Calling
Gustav Holst - The Planets
O brother, Where Art Thou? OST
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
The Replacements - All For Nothing (best of, disc one)
The Best of Stax Records, Vol. 1
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Truck Stop Love - How I Spent My Summer Vacation
Uncle Tupelo - Still Feel Gone

Yes! I will have to agree partially with IrishMick and Cyril.

AC/DC - Back in Black, Highway to Hell, For Those About to Rock, Razor's Edge
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion I&II
Led Zeppelin 3 (Or whichever has Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks and Misty Mountain Hop)
The Soundtrack to Fellowship of the Ring
And my personal mix CD that contains some of the rockingest songs of all time, including a nice selection of Cowboy Bebop tunes.

I can't believe I didn't include any Zep or Beatles. Or Marley.

I hope my desert island is close to some of the other denizen's islands.

Crank it up y'all 8)

Dalton - I think those Zep tunes are from the runes album, LZ4.

Much obliged. I'd ask my sister (Led Zep queen round here) but I'm too lazy.

Remember to ask your sister what she calls that album. I've heard LZ4, runes, Zoso, Zofo (hehe I remember, well kind of, a night long ago where two guys argued over Zofo/Zoso for hours...)

Anyhow, that album is full of LotR references.

Oh, I know about Zep and Tolkien. My sister pointed it out to me. It's one of the major reasons Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite songs.
