There seem to be a lot of Final Fantasy fans on this board. So, what do you all think of the upcoming Final Fantasy XI? It has not been extraordinarily successful in Japan. Will you buy the game and also drop the cash necessary to get all the hardware needed to play it (the PS2 network adapter, etc.), or are you not gonna bother with it at all?

Care to elaborate? i'm a big fan of FF, but have heard nothing of XI

Final Fantasy XI is the first online installment of the series. It has not been extremely well-received in Japan.

I love Final Fantasy and haven't missed one for a long time, but 40 bucks for a network adapter (which Sony is doing a typically wonderful job keeping in stock, just like they did with PS2s and Memory Cards) plus 50 bucks for a game might be a bit too steep for a poor college student. Oh well, we'll have to see, I still want to give the game a chance.

I only ever played FF7, and never really got into It. I'll likely buy a new comp soon but eleven won't be driving my system resources.

XI? Doubtful. If the Japanese aren't eating it up, it's generally a really bad sign(They seem to be the only group more obsessed with FF than those people I know). I'm waiting more on X-II, which seems to be the first true sequel in the series(Even if IX tied up dozens of plotlines from the former games into one coherent storyline).

Yeah, X-2 looks sweet as hell.

Also, IX really didn't make the rest of the series coherent in the least bit. It just alluded to the previous games of the series a whole bunch.

That's far more than any other game. The best we got before that was Gilgamesh as a summon in 8.

Why would I want to play FFXI when I could play Star Wars: Galaxies?

Point taken, but my loyalty to Final Fantasy takes precedence over my loyalty to Star Wars *dodges flames*
