Just watch STIII on TV
How come the Klingons didn't just beam up the people on the surface?
Also what do people think about the movie. I think it was kinda crappy, but I have really distorted opinions.

Yep, that stood out to me too. Actually watching something of importance in Star Trek, and then the way it came was just great. I lke the TOS Era Movies nothing less except TOS which I hardly watch or catch.

I really liked the scene where the Enterpirse leaves spacedock. Great music. "We have cleared spacedoors."

So I do have distorted opinons. Guess I'm very weird then. I think I have been focusing too much on the little nitpick. STIV goes on TV next week

I was kind of let down after ST II when I first saw III.
I was watching it tonight and switched to Farscape once they stole the Enterprise (my favourite scene and very cool music!)
It felt disjointed. You knew that they were going to find Spock (any other ending would've had fans spoiling for blood after they killed him in II), Kirstie Alley wasn't Saavik, and they spent WAAAYYY too much time messing around on the Genesis planet. Destroying the Enterprise came as a real shock the first time and was risky as hell considering how much the fans loved that ship...

Re: Just watch STIII on TV
My guess would be that the Klingons wanted to investigate the world anyway and would have wound up beaming the team down sooner or later... might as well grab the Starfleet people while they're at it. And, if it turns out they know nothing and are useless, they can kill them on-planet and save the energy that might otherwise have been used to beam them up, interrogate them, and kill them.Pu-239 wrote:How come the Klingons didn't just beam up the people on the surface?

I think the Enterprise escape sequence is one of the best moments in all the ST movies. Also, the beginning had a very nice feel to it... something the TNG movies could not pull off.
Kirk falling down after his son got killed is also a great moment.
I kind of think that seems a bit overly dramatic when he does that (go figure: Shatner?! Overly dramatic?!! ). Didn't he only find out he had a son in the prior movie? I mean, I understand the "Oh...my God, you....just...killed my.....son!" reaction, but he can't have been THAT upset since Kirk hardly knew the kid. IMO, anyway.Uraniun235 wrote:Kirk falling down after his son got killed is also a great moment.
Then again, I'm not a parent. What do I know? *shrug*
I was watching the movie before, but then left to go partying. It was ok; reasonably entertaining, but #4 is by FAR my favourite.

I think the point there was that because he just discovered he had a son, the fact that he was now dead precluded him from ever getting to know his son and bonding with him. It was the abrupt shock of losing that possibility forever. Partly also I'm sure part of it had to do with the fact that Kirk never really lost anything in his life...he just lost Spock in the last movie and now the son he never knew.Zaia wrote:I kind of think that seems a bit overly dramatic when he does that (go figure: Shatner?! I thought it was AWESOME acting on part of Shatner, particulalry BECAUSE this is Captain James T. Kirk and he's sobbing on the floor...always brings a tear to my eye when I see that. By far one of Shatener's best performances.

With the 'BECAUSE this is Cpt. James T. Kirk' bit, do you mean that he's usually strong and self-composed, so this part is so powerful because you see his emotions?I thought it was AWESOME acting on part of Shatner, particulalry BECAUSE this is Captain James T. I haven't seen enough ST episodes to appreciate that part of it, if that's what you meant. Personally I still find it a bit over-the-top, but maybe that's just me.

ST III ,
Good points,
1. Introduces the Excelsior class
2. Introduces the Bird of Prey
3. Introduces the Oberth class
4. Introduces the mushroom shaped starbase
5. Shows some Starfleet infrastructure
6. Shows the "underbelly" of the Federation
Bad points,
1. Introduces the Bird of Prey(I know its in the good too, but they over use the bird of prey from here on out)
2. The movie goes on about an hour too long
3. Starts brain bug that the Enterprise has to be destroyed to have a dramatic scene
4. Shifts the Klingons from somewhat worth foe to a bunch of idiots
5. Had some funky notions about the whole rebirth thing
