Linux

I want to move to a dual boot system.

Now I just need to know:

What do I need to download and where do I do it?

Once I've dled how do I go about installing and setting it all up?

Get MDK9.0 from one of the mirrors on linux-mandrake.com (it's three ISO images). Burn them all to CD-R's, and then boot to the first CD.

Keep in mind that you will need some unpartitioned space on your HD.

Roughly 2 gigabytes. You would be better off bugging somebody who has broadband to do it for you.

Anyone know of a place/magazine that might carry this stuff for free?

Anybody who has a high-speed connection will probably do it for free. Alternatively, you can get the retail package.

Hmmm...

Problem is that this is Tasmania, ADSL and satellite are the best we get. And both are heavily regulated.

How much would retail set me back?

ADSL would get the job done. I used ADSL to get my copy.

I think it's about 50-70 bucks. But you're better off trying to snag a free copy. I'd mail it to you if you can't find anybody closer who can do it.

Apparently the latest copy of a linux mag has the full Mandrake 9.0 on the cover discs (about 5 of 'em). Going to see if I can find me a copy.
