In the same vein of my US vs UK thread, let's do another; the European Union vs the United States of America!
Relations between The United State and the European Union deteriorate and war is declared. No outside power can intervene. Who wins?

We covered basically this before. Though cutting it down to the EU makes things easier, no Russia to worry about. The US ends up blockading the EU and bombing its oil and power supplies into submission.

The Pacific Ocean is our bitch, and neither side has the ability to transport large amounts of troops across the Atlantic.

Aided by the French interim government, who immediately turn on their neighbors when it becomes clear that the EU will lose, the United States crushes the EU.

I don't like this thread
I'll just give a traditional trekkie answer: give us 50 years to prepare.
E.U loses. Badly. But why would you do it? We love ya!

As Duran said. France betrays the EU, either holds or destroys the Chunnel while US Forces race across Germany from it's bases too link up with France. Only the Ibeian Peninsula remains a true, continental threat.

And then the U.S. tactically nukes all of France in order to show that traitors to their country will not be tolerated.

The EU is utterly crushed. But it can't be held.

Don't worry, I'm sure those three F-16s of yours will put up a great fight.

We have forty of those! Those three are the current Bosnian contingent.
And we also have three subs, six modern frigates and lots of destroyers.
And many 1960's choppers.
And maybe about 80.000 regular troops.
And we have our character shield of invencibility. For nearly a thousand years, we have stood independent and unconquered, while the rest of Europe crumpled and divided itself many times over!

Weren't those supposed to be replaced by a Eurofighter by now?

We could defeat you by dropping surplus M60 tanks out of C-5's on your airfields.

US utterly crushes the EU militarily, but the EU cannot realistically be conquered by US forces.

Might be funner to drop surplus 16 in. shells with timed denators(sp?) on them.

50-60 odd tons of armor grade steel falling from 25,000 feet is going to do a lot of damage

As it stands now the EU goes down hard and fast.Probably the B2 fleet alone with a strategic bormbardment campaign aimed to oil refineries would be able to bring the members countries to the table in few weeks if the conditions are not too murderous.

You don't have the troops to even come close to holding the Eu but the actual war would be a complete massacre. The USA is militarised, the EU isn't.

However a fully federalized EU would be an other matter. The european economy has a size comparable to the american one,if not bigger and a technological level roughly similar, irrespective of what the various Azerons may decide to believe. We have the abilities to manufacture sophistcated items, from decent nuclear submarines to aircraft carriers etc should the need arise.
It would take several years but the american advantage in numbers and in the technology of weapons fielded would be reduced to a minimum level.
The US would mantain an advantage in some ares and the EU in others.
What it lacks is the political will to do this.

I don't really want the EU to militarise. Every time Europe starts on that big time shit happens. We're pretty proficent in killing each other in large numbers.

If the US does not come after us first. It is not at all an impossible thing as it may seem at first glance.I doubt that they will tolerate the existance of an other superpower theoretically capable to being an obstacle to their egemony without reacting.
Although when these things will become an issue we will be either dead or very old.The EU will take many, many years to become a federal state with an at least de facto unified military.

And as usual, Blair can't decided whether he loves Bush more than Europe..
No, silly question. the British public get pulled in against thweir will and we side with the USA.
Cause, after all, even the Yanks are better than the French.

Many books have been written on the military prowess of the US, and so far as I can tell, the greatest strength of the US lies in its ability to project power and its ability to control the skies. Both are done through carrier groups. A great deal of the projection power of the US lies in its ability to use NATO soil. A war between the US and EU powers would, in the beginning, prevent such use. Once US forces had seized appropriate airfields in EU territory, and air superiority was no longer dependent on carrier groups, the US could begin to demolish EU military forces and industry from the sky. Nonetheless, a great weakness of the US military is that the will of the people determine how long and to what degree the military is allowed to engage its enemies, and I don't think the people of the US would allow a sustained and costly war. Once the US had demonstrated its ability to seize forward bases and bomb at will, the American people would likely look for a quick end to the war.
