Will CNN be the Army's bitch this round?

Post by Raptor 597 »

So will CNN be the Army's bitch this probable Gulf War? They're already doing it and how bad you'll think it'll be.

Probably. The last war had excellent control of the media. The current one likely will as well. They'll be showing want the army wants for the most part. What spin they put on it is anoother story.

CNN? The little liberal-lefties? They're not "the Army's bitch" - They're a bunch of military-hating left-wingers who don't know a single bloody thing about what they're talking about when it comes to military affairs. Of course not even Fox does for that matter, but at least they try to be unbiased.

On the plus side the programme for training reporters to keep up with the troops that we have now for this upcoming gulf war will hopefully put some respect for the military into them.

The Second Gulf War's leadership was only able to control the media by keeping them away from anything important, force-feeding them facts, and laughing behind their backs at their monumental and largely voluntary ignorance over the details of how things worked and what was going on.

No, I don't. I do however find SomethingPositive to be humorous. I'm hardly a conservative, after all. Nor, for that matter, vulcanoid.

CNN won't be the militaries bitch. It'll be the governments. We can't risk speaking out against the holy Bush regime now can we?

No, it's the logical follow through of you saying you're not conservative, you are obviously a fascist, both though that and all your political posts.

The correct definition of my political thought would be that I'm a libertarian who believes in an interventionist foreign policy because it's necessary to sustain our economy.

Only if you're a Libertarian Party member, which I've not. The current leadership is a collection of loony-bins.

Yeah, agreed. I like Harry Browne alot but I'm sure under his leadership the party will be taken to great new heights of irrelevancy.

Individuals in the media don't simply have to follow the Army around to get information. They can if they so desire go into Iraq on their own. They just better make sure their life insurance policies are adequate.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Ted started it, and I'm so jaded now I've decided I'll just give it up and make everything political. Some people here need to accept that differences of opinion can exist equitably.

At the individual level, certainly, given that many if not most US troops are Republicans. However there is considerable friction these days between the upper levels of the Pentagon and the lower levels of civilian control. Much of this friction is due to Shrubby & company screwing around with necessary military projects (DD-21/DDX, Crusader, F-22 order size, etc) but a lot is due to the Pentagon handing upwards plans to conquor Iraq with X number of troops and Rumpsfelt throwing them back with the instruction 'find a way to do it with X/2 troops.' It's not an understatement to say that there's not all that much love between the military brass and the White House at the moment.

Crusader is a debatable project. Lots of military/industrial spending is more about pork barrel than giving troops equipment they need. Besides, we CANT pay for all of this without deficit spending so something has to go.
